  • Broken handle repair question

I purchased my Hobie Revo used so I'm not sure if the lift handle directly behind the seat was factory installed or after-market. Anyway, I was lifting the kayak using that handle, and heard a pop, and one half of the handle had popped through the hole. There was a small black rubber head which snapped and got lost in the grass, and I heard a rattle inside the kayak which I assume was the other half of the plastic piece.

I have looked around and can not find that type of "rivet" (for lack of a better word) anywhere. I think I want to reattach the handle because it was useful, but at a minimum I want to plug the hole if there is no replacement part. Regular pop rivets seemed too small to fill the hole. If there is no better way, I guess I could go that route and use lots of Goop, but I'm sure that won't hold.

Any repair ideas? Attached a couple of pics to help visualize.

I think you are looking for a "well nut", not a river.

Forget about the rivet and the well nut and get a stainless bolt, lock nut, and a fender washer to distribute some of the load. You might as well get two or the other side will fail on you!

Steve, I agree with Redfish use stainless nuts and bolts if you can reach it.

They are well nuts but they are not for with using heavyweights just for repositioning the kayak in awkward positions. More permanent solution follow the suggestions on a threat.
