I can't answer the battery question, but I've been slowly gathering materials to make one of these myself. I'm planning on having a SPDT switch to run the pump. One direction will run it a the full 12V from the battery, the other will run through a buck converter to run the pump at 5V to help extend the battery. I envision filling the livewell at 12V and maintaing with the 5V setting.___________________________________

I spent about ~$200 on it. I kinda went over budget, but all in all, I am happy how it turned out.Originally posted by mytmouse View PostLooks sweet! How much did you drop into it?
It is mainly to keep Spots for live lining and to keep my crabs alive.Originally posted by Frogsauce View PostAny objections to using a stringer for catches? Other than the possibility of a blue or shark coming to steal your catch?
I turn it on and off every 10-15 minutes or so. I was out in the Bay for 5-6 hours this past weekend and the battery ran just fine.Originally posted by Evanb84 View PostI just built one of these myself out of a standard cooler....I have the same 360gph pump, how long does your battery last?2012 WS Tarpon 120

Your live well looks very professional. Bring the production costs down and you might have a profitable product there.2018 Hobie Outback (seagrass)

Thank you for the kind words. It really isn't that hard to make. I think most people would enjoy making their own, and put their own twist to it.Originally posted by buzz View PostSWEET!

After some research, I found out that most parts can be ordered from Amazon for a fraction of the price I paid for from the brick and mortar stores.2012 WS Tarpon 120

Yeah, I think I might get one of these put together in the next few months.
I was thinking of using something like this http://www.amazon.com/Attwood-Corpor...6K6/ref=sr_1_1 to allow the pump to pull fresh water up through a scupper.

Just make sure that your drain holes are big enough to drain the tank properly. From my initial use, 360 gph fills my tank pretty fast and have to turn it off once in a while to keep the tank from over filling. The pump in the link is a 500 gph. Just keep that in mind when you are building your kit.Originally posted by reel-em-in View PostThat's the pump I'm going to use.2012 WS Tarpon 120

Frogsauce, I live across the street from you, near the Elementary school. Let me know if you want to see/test the live well I have to give you ideas on building your own. That being said, we should link up for a trip on the Bay.Originally posted by Frogsauce View PostYeah, I think I might get one of these put together in the next few months.
