If you want something really wide and stable, the Jackson Big Rig I looked at this weekend really fits the bill. That thing is insanely wide, a TON of features and Jackson is having a 15% off sale right now.

I can't comment on how it handles or manages big water though.

Just save some more and buy the new outback if you already have that much to spend.

I would have to agree with this...or a 2014. I really like mine, and you'll have some money left over for other accessories, like a fancy fish finder.

I would still have a look into Viking kayaks if your budget has grown. You'll probably discover a whole new class of kayak. Especially for the ocean.

Unless you want to pedal instead of paddle. To each his own of course.
