      i believe it is the york haven dam just south of goldsboro. it doesnt seem like a really big dam though. prolly a simple 100ft portage and back into the drink we go

            Several times I've hiked the short section of the Susky on the west bank from Rt372, located just above your put-in, down river to the start of the Conowingo Pool. I have a strong interest in geology and river erosion features and this section of the Susky is like a riverine geologist's Heaven. I bush-whacked to as many of those rocky islands as I could, scrambling over precarious log jams to get to them. There are also remnants of an old canal (circa C&O Canal era) on the west side that once went from tideline at Havre de Grace to waaay upriver past Harrisburg. It's amazing what early 1800s engineers and construction crews could build without the aid of the internal combustion engine, ie bulldozers, dump trucks, graders and such. But I digress.
