  • June 13 th meet and greet upper Potomac

Hi everyone , we are planning a float from Brunswick to Point of Rocks . The bass fishing has had some great days with some very large fish caught ,there are lots of smaller fish to keep you busy on light tackle . Tube and deep diving crank baits have been the most successful.
We plan for a pickup to ferry folks back up river .There will also be a barbecue at my place sponsored by the Valley Mill boats Kayak Fishing team ..Anyone who wants to come the evening before to camp Is welcome to at my place .
Just like to get an idea on how many we can expect to come . looking forward to hearing from you . If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Rich

Me and Michelle will be coming. Been anxiously waiting for this trip to come up, one of my favorites and favorite host. May take you up on the camping offer again, just hope maybe someone else comes to this time. All the undivided attention from you and your wife was a little overwhelming but very nice. Sure did make us feel at home.

If you need any help shuttling we may be able to help. I can carry two on the racks easily and probably can squeeze one in the bed, it is a short bed though. If you need us to bring anything else drinks, food, whatever just say so.

Highly recommend this one to anyone debating attending. Doesn't take a a whole lot of tackle, nice easy float with a shuttle, beautiful stretch of river, great host and good food thrown in at the end . Very suitable to any beginners. Wacky worms did wonders for me last year but tubes and spinners were also very productive. May have to give the crank baits a try this time as per Rich's advice.

Keep in mind you most likely will hit a few rocks so the Hobie fins will be a no go unless you are super careful.

I'm thinking about trying for this meet and greet. My attendance will depend on the weather, river stage, and situation with a sick family member. I hope it all works out.

I'm in. This is always a good trip as long as weather and river cooperate.

Glad to see more interest. Personally I'm ready to pack up now and go. Once again if you are a beginner or veteran it's a great trip.

Rich do you have start and end times picked yet? I'm not sure if I will make it up the night before or the day of and a time for Saturday morning would be helpful.

My schedule is clear. I'm looking forward to it! Haven't had much luck in the river, and would be great to learn some. Might bring a friend of mine if he can get off work.

Try a Senko style 5" wacky worm dropped in behind any rocks. Did wonders for me last trip. Tubes were also productive.

This sounds like fun. I lost my shuttle partner to a job move so haven't been able to run a stretch yet this year. Not sure I can make it yet, but intererested. I'll monitor this thread.

How is that section of the river. I have a Hobie Mirage Inflatable. Are there any rapids that I would need to be concerned about? Also, what do you mean when you say that someone will ferry us back upriver? I've never done a float trip before, so I'm just trying to figure out logistics. I'd really like to join in.

Mirage drives will have problems. You will have to go over a few ledges, and the drive will hit rocks. Float trips are fun. Basically you leave a shuttle vehicle at the downstream take out, shuttle the yaks Yaks upstream to the put in. You float back to your shuttle vehicle at the take out.

No rapids of any note in that section. There is one little drop into the pool at the top of Lander where you just need to pick your spot to pass through (and that largely depends on river level that day). You may want to take advantage of Rich's offer above in this thread to use a Jackson Kayak and paddle that day. I have seen Hobie's in that section before in the summer, it is doable, but the river can get boney in the summer and it is better suited for a paddle kayak on a fishing trip.
