Count me in. I've been looking forward to fishing this area with a few pro's.

I've never fished this area. What can be expected?

We're hardly pros, but...

The launch is very convenient to parking via a short path to a narrow sandy beach. A cart is useful or you'll need only a short carry with a helping hand from a buddy. It's one of the easier launches in the area.


It's big water (the river is wide there) with no immediate shelter from the wind. Let's hope the weather cooperates.

It's generally not deep, maybe between 4 and 16 feet with various rises and holes until you reach the shipping channel -- which you should not enter of course. There are ample areas near the park good for trolling both near the shore and many many yards from it.

Stripers, white perch and blues will hit a variety of lures (spinners, crank baits, jigs with soft plastics and flies) and if you bottom fish with bait you may catch channel cats.

There is structure nearby in the form of riprap along the perimeter of the park but you may have to compete with shore fisherman to fish some of those spots. (They'll let you know with very creative uses of profanity if you get near their lines! I know this from first-hand experience.)

And of course the famous White Rocks are relatively close to the launch site and uninhabited by shore fishermen thank goodness, just birds. The rocks are frequented by boaters and kayakers who bottom fish and toss lures.

You can see the Key Bridge to the north and you can probably reach it if you desire and conditions are calm.

Mark, You did an excellent job explaining this fishing site.

I am using 1/2 - 1/4 oz with paddle tails. use z-man or you can lose the tails to the blues. And of course On-the- Mark special spinners for perch (caught blues and stripers with them too). There extremely expensive and elusive to find but worth it

No wet/dry suit - are regular clothes sufficient for October?

I would need some "go hither" advice since my FF must wait for spring.
