  • Some Bigguns Today

I got out on a boat today on the upper bay (gasp) which was nice because of the wind. We fished the same areas I would hit on a kayak. We trolled a bit then stopped and jigged, and really got into some quality fish.
Here was a 30 incher, several others were close and lots of mid 20's with a few unders.
Those G-Eye jigs were great. Mike had some and they were the ticket. I'm not so sure they eye had anything to do with it, although I'm not a fish so I can't say for sure. I was more a fan of the shape which allowed it to fall a little nicer than the narrow jig head I was using. That one is better for getting down deep quickly. The G-eye was good for casting and jigging back. The hooks were strong and sharp and gave a great hook set. I'm going to order some right now.

    30 incher.

I haven't gotten the other pics up yet, but I will soon with a full report. It's been a great season! I've been out almost every weekend and the catching this year has been exceptional. Many trips this fall have yielded 30" fish. It looks like others are having the same kind of experience. Nice!

Kinda funny seeing you in a full wet suit and PFD while Mike is wearing jeans...I guess as kayakers we learn the dangers of being complacent

I know. It is kinda funny. We were expecting rain, so that was part of it. But the water's still cold and it would have been easy to fall overboard. I wore my PFD the whole time too. I'm usually the only guy on the boat doing that, but I can do the math. If there's a small percent chance of something happening, and I'm out there a lot....something is bound to happen sooner or later.

With all the fish slime on there (your PFD) it probably functions as a fish attractant. Probably why you guys did so well.

I really should wash it. The wife complains I smell like fish.
...never trust a skinny cook :-P

I think I'll clean it tomorrow. There's an inch of fish slime on it.

You going to take it to the laundry mat? Pretty sure even as much as my wife loves fish, she'd fillet me if I tried to put my gear in our washing machine.

I clean my drysuit after every trip, with a hose and a rag...get's most of the blood and slime off. Then just hang it in the garage to dry.

I think I'm just going to put it on and get a shower with laundry detergent and a brush.

I've thought about doing that also...but I would have to get it through the house. My wife would probably grab a paddle and defend the fortress to keep it out of the living quarters.

Ya gotta wear her down slowly. I'm finally at the point where she doesn't mind a few stray fish scales in the sink!

In a little over a week it will be 20 years with my wife, I've learned to pick battles worth engaging in.

I gave the suit a good scrubbing in the tub. I think I saw a rockfish swim out of it!

That suit cleaning didn't last very long! Fish slime all over it again :-) More bigs! It was another awesome day.

Nice fish! You consistently find more big rockfish than anyone I've met.
