July 9, 2016 Meet & Greet at Lowes Wharf
Good. I probably caught close to 30 stripers. 1/3 of those were small, less than 12". The rest between 16-19", biggest 23". All caught on a paddletail. Only other species caught was a nice spec, close to citation! I tried minnows near the rocks for almost an hour, not a bite. A friend was using the same and clams with only a few stripers I think. We caught the majority of our fish after heading back and found a school in open water. Both boated a dozen or so in less than an hour between 16-19".Last edited by silasvirus82; 07-11-2016, 09:15 AM.2015 Hobie Outback

rough start to the day.....worst wind at a meet and greet i can remember....eventually became nearly flat calm. I caught a 19.5" rock near the landing, so i fished there till the wind died, caught about ten rock, but all smaller than that first.
I ventured across to the island around 930. Caught super smalls and crab buoys on my troll across the channel.
100ft from shore i caught my first keeper. Near where a red kubota tractor was parked ashore. trolling that area I caught two more 20+ fish, about 4-5 that were just short, and some thing really big that i lost near the boat, but he never came shallow enough for me to catch a glance. He broke off as i tried to adjust my drag....grrr
Paddle up current homeward just about killed me...got dehydrated I think. Looked for moc to tow me home with his fancy motor, but, was nowhere in sight! Back at the wharf, coop had done a great job, good lunch, live music, seating near the beach volleyball venue (I took several pics of our group, lol, but this was only bikini free shot!). Great m&g coop!!!

Thanks again too Coop for a fabulous day at Lowe's Wharf! Great meeting all the guys as well!
Yesterday marked two personal firsts for me; my first Meet 'N Greet, and my first ever speckled trout. It was a 16"er, which I though was not legal; turns out 14" is the min size, but no worries, the fish was released unharmed to fight another day. Other than that, I caught an 18" striper, and about 10 other dink stripers of various small sizes.
Very tough sledding the first 90 min or so; whitecaps and trolling south against the tide. I basically shoreline trolled down to Goat Island, and then back. I was whipped after 3.5 hours but all worthwhile.
Did anyone try the southern point of Poplar Island? It looks a lot closer than the northern point, but I hear the north side has better fishing.

Had awesome time meeting everyone yesterday. Had a rough time fighting the waves in the morning. I stayed about 100-200 yards from the wharf all day. Caught three stripers. Two 18" and one 12". All before 10am and all in about 4t of water.

It was an awesome day! Waves in the morning were BRUTAL (glad I didn't bring my 12 year old) never really went more than 300 yards from the wharf. Caught 8 total with the largest at 19 1/2 inches. Did some bottom fishing when the water went flat and managed a few very small spot. Thanks for hosting Coop beautiful area of MD there.

Where'd you guys catch the wp at? As for me, it was a great day. Going into this, and only having my kayak for a year (fished saltwater from it for the first time in March), I had never caught a fish using a lure, always used bait to get what I could. When that first (small) rockfish hit while I was trolling a paddletail, it was a great feeling, not only had I caught a fish on a lure, but also trolling a lure at that. Wind and whitecaps were a bit intimidating, took a lot of water over the bow, but luckily most ran down the sides and not into my sit-inside. All in all, caught about 30 fish, smallest 10 were 10-12", next 15 were 12-17", and the last 5 were 18-19.5", and since I'm never one to break fishing rules, all were released. All caught on the same lure, which held up very well. Silasvirus and I found a really nice spot on our way back that I wish we had found 2 hours earlier, probably both would've eventually limited out, there was certainly a better class of fish there, that fought above their size. Turned out to be an excellent day. Thanks coop for organizing, the lunch, and a dogfish 60, really capped the day.

It was a foggy ride down to the Meet and Greet in the morning. The fog did not break for me until I got within 15 minutes of the launch. Once I got there, Coop was in the parking lot ready to greet everyone. I got there around 5:30 am, so I could take my time and get my gear ready. A weather front passed by that made the early morning rough. The water went from calm to lots of chop and swells. I launched at 7:20am, and the water was bumpy all the way to Poplar Island. I think the weatherman missed his prediction by 2 hours. The water did calm down as predicted later in the morning, which made for an enjoyable rest of the day. Fishing was good for me. I probably caught about 50 fish during the morning. Most were rockfish 12 to 16 inches, but I caught a lot that were in the 18 to 19.5 inch range. I actually limited out with a rockfish of 20 and 21 inches. I release a 20.5 incher because it had a lot of sores on it. I also caught a 23.5 inch Speckle Sea Trout on a white paddle tail in 6 feet of water. The keeper rockfish were caught in 3 feet of water and 5 feet of water. I used only ΒΌ ounce jig head most of the day, except for when I fished around the smaller islands in 2.5 to 3 feet of water I used an 1/8 ounce jig head. Later in the morning before heading in for lunch, I saw fish jumping and splashing near a pier, so I began to catch 10 inch perch on a spinner. Another kayaker was already over there catching perch left and right. By 12:15pm, I decided to head in for lunch.
Lunch was great. The owner, Paul with Coop, reserved four tables for our group. About 13 Snaggedliners showed up for lunch. The venue was nice. It was a beachy scene with outdoor tables and bar. There was a live band playing and there was an area with a mist machine to cool you off. Coop awarded Teddy the Biggest Fish prize for a 24 inch rockfish and MikeMike won the bucket of lures. Teddy gave me part of his bucket of lures for coming in second with a recorded sea trout of 23.5 inches, just short of a citation. By 3:30pm everything was over, so a half dozen of us decided to fish the afternoon west of Poplar Island on the western shore where we caught rockfish and plenty of white perch in 4 to 6 feet of water.
Thanks Coop for hosting this Meet and Greet. It was good seeing old and new Snaggedliners again. It was a great venue and many people caught fish. Many caught a keeper, whether they kept it, lost it at the boat or released it.Attached Files- DJI_0010.jpg (96.6 KB, 52 views)

Sounds good Coop. I'll say it again; Lowe's Wharf has been my most reliable launch the last couple seasons; for both #'s caught and keepers. Saturday was my fourth time launching there, so that's a pretty good sample size. And you can't go wrong with the setting, especially at sunset with an adult beverage. I look forward to a mini meet n' greet before the season is done!

Coop, Thanks for setting up the event. I got out late, around 9:30 so I missed the rough water and unfortunately the fish. I paddled for 4 hours the day before and didn't have it in me to head to Poplar Island. I trolled the straights with 1 non target fish. A school of thankfully small Rays swam directly under my boat. I stopped paddling, hoping the lures would drop deeper than they were. No dice. One hit my smallest rod. I played with it for a minute before I cut the line. Enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing that beautiful big Spec that Moc caught. Looking forward to fishing the area again.WOOD DUCK 12
