    What do you use to sharpen your hooks. Do you sharpen away from the point or towards the point?

      I have a set of jewler's files- but not everyone uses them for sharpening hooks- they are left over tools from my days as an inside machinist- most use a hook stone that has a groove in it specifically for sharpening hooks- and it does not matter which direction you stroke the file/stone so long as you put a sharp point on the hook- I use my thumbnail as a guide to measure sharpness- if the hook sticks, it is sharp

        sometimes fish just dont hook themselves. john skinner on youtube has a bunch of under water footage of this. fish striking, fish following the lure, then just turning away, lure in the mouth, then spits it away, its pretty crazy what could be going on below. check out his channel
