Show of hands---who'sready to support bull shark nursery (dang CNR)
Bull sharks also have a rep for eating people too! They also do very well in brackish water. When I was a kid, one was caught off Philadelphia in the Delaware River. I'll live with periodic rides from rays thank you.
It's all about getting them to eat the RIGHT people!

Only thing i know that that preys on cow nosed rays is a bull shark
Never seen so many LARGE cnr as i did this weekend. Bow tourney id politically incorrect so I guess bull shark hatchery is only option. Maybe we can breed em to only eat CNR, oyster toadfish, treehuggers/anti-sportsmen and poachers. How hard could it be?
I just have to point out that if it wasn’t for treehuggers you wouldn’t be fishing. I’m old enough to remember a river in Ohio catching fire because it was sooooooo polluted by industry because there were no treehuggers. After this and Love Canal the EPA was created. Now the fishing is great around the country including that river in Ohio and the Potomac which was almost unfishable back then........... so PLEASE don’t bad mouth the treehuggers when you should be thanking them.
Well said MM..clean air/clean water EPA laws are the only reason we still have fish we can safely eat...three inches of oil scum on top of the water is hard to paddle through...

The main reason we have clean water, fish to catch, and game to hunt is the people (you, me, etc..) that actually USE the resource. The tree huggers don't do nearly as much as they think and often screw things up worse by limiting access. Your point is taken that at a certain point in time regulations and protests driven by far left enviornmentalists helped save the resources but today the majority of funding for conservation, state dnr's, land grants (ducks unlimited etc..) is a direct result of monies collected from taxes laid upon sportsmen. Further, the only reason we still have deer and turkey in Virginia is because in the 1920 through the 50s the state and local hunters made the effort to reestablish those species. It was hunters and fisherman and the funding/interest they provided that saved those species.
The next time a PETA or some other whacko gives you a hard time for hunting and fishing point them here.... oh yeah... and keep teaching your kids or your friends kids to hunt and fish if you like doing it because without more of us the resource is gonna be in deep trouble. Use it or lose it. The best conservationists in the world are the guys that recreationally use the resource.
Btw... for the lazy the article shows where the money for conservation comes from today. 59% of the 3.3 billion per year collected nationally comes from hunting and fishing related activities. 59%.... go us!
What I don't understand is why some folks think that sportsman and "treehugger" are mutually exclusive ideologies. Everyone on this forum is a sportsman and I would hope also cares about the health of the resources and the environment.
When I hear tree hugger I think of the dopes I know that tell me eating meat is a crime, killing deer is immoral, etc. Obviously both sides have extemists. When I hear tree hugger to me it is akin to poacher. Just the other side of the coin. You can def be for the environment and hunt and fish though. As you said those ideas are hardly mutually exclusive.

Obviously you and very confused. PETA has NOTHING to do with treehuggers. They are only against eating and using animals for human use and not harming them. Treehuggers are all about the environment and preservation of resources. Yes, hunters and fishermen do contribute to help preserve resources but the amount of taxes and license fees we spend do not cover the cost of conservation. Just compare the DNR budget to the money generated via licenses. You should understand that organizations like Trout Unlimited, CCA, Turkeys Unlimited etc ARE treehuggers. They create legislation and do research and take action to take care of the resources so we can all continue to enjoy the earth. The treehuggers are responsible for the CLEAN AIR ACT, the establishment of the EPA and the clean water legislations. The monies come from the government and private funds ...... But that doesn’t matter as long as we are all pulling in the same directions.
As far as limiting access .......... well that is what tree hugging (conservation) is all about and it is good. Catch limits, seasons, limited access to areas, building codes etc are all aimed at protecting the resources so we can enjoy them longer. Shoot .......... it’s the treehuggers that have lead the efforts to clean the bay.
BTW ......... You really make yourself look small when you insult people for no reason by calling them lazy etc.
Wow... did you even read my post? I never said the dopes at PETA were tree huggers (though I would throw them in the same boat/kayak). Just used them as a example of the typical environmental group that gives sportsmen headaches. ie. SELC, Audubon Society et al). Most folks would do the same as they are typically the same people.
I also never said that hunters and fisherman support all of the funds used to support conservation. I said the majority. 59% to be exact.
I also never called anyone lazy. I said... "for the lazy" which is standard internet slang for posting a link or summarizing an article (which is what I did.) If you were offended by that and think it makes me look small we should probably never be in the same room together. Or maybe we should and we could get paid a lot of money...
Now we get into semantics ... You say Trout Unlimited, CCA, etc.. are "tree huggers". I disagree and say they are sportsmen. Since the definition of tree hugger is up to the individual to define since it is a made up term we can both be right here. I simply have a different definition of a tree hugger. See my prior post in this thread if you really care to carry this conversation forward.
As a final aside... I really don't disagree with anything you are saying. I just don't use the same verbiage. I've worked directly for/with the EPA for 25+ years. I know who is who and what is what in the business. I have seen both sides of extremism and see both as equally destructive in their own right.
Not trying to pick a fight. Just wanted to add to the conversation by sharing some facts and opinions. Tight lines to you.
I've had stingray once a few years back and thought it tasted pretty good. I actually want to try and target a few and try them again but have no idea where to find them and how to catch them. From a kayak the only way I can see it being safe to land one is with a spear gaff or something. There aren't any regulations on these guys that I should know about are there? I've tried finding some on skate and CNRs in the past if I ever came across one but couldn't find anything.
Big Mike and I dodged schools of CNRs today...if you want to “target” them, troll a crystal minnow, a XRap or a rattle trap...guarantee you will get your wish...

Just so you know, skates and CNR's are two different kinds of meatl. Skates have white meat and CNR's have red, veiny meat. While I have never eaten CNR's, I have eaten skates and find that they are delicious.
Skates found in the waters around here don't have barbs. Rays generally have barbs in the long tail (sting ray) or close to the body, CNR's.

It must have been skate that I had then, I wouldn't have expected the meat to be that different. Looking forward to getting a chance to do a comparison between the two one of these days. Thanks for the heads up!
Fished the piers around Solomon's island Sunday. CNR central. More than I've seen in the past. Could be me but seemed bigger too. By the way, the fishing was decent but you had to go through a few dozen shorts to get one shy of a legal.
