  • July 14, 2018 Meet & Greet at Lowes Wharf

I volunteered to host the July 14th M&G. In 2016, everyone had a good time fishing and many who came enjoyed the lunch at the Restaurant next to the ramp. I setup the lunch with the Restaurant owner (Paul) who put aside several tables for our group. It is outside dining with a beachy feel.

The July 2018 Meet and Greet will be held on Saturday, July 14th at Lowes Wharf Marina in Sherwood, MD. The exact address for your GPS is 21651 Lowes Wharf Road, Sherwood MD. It is about 1 hour from the Bay Bridge. We will launch at 6:30 AM, We will be targeting Spots, Croakers, Perch, and Rockfish. There may even be a Speckle Trout or Red drum mixed in if they come back this far north this year, but none have been reported this year so far. Lunch will be at 12:30 PM at Lowes Wharf Marina Inn. http://www.loweswharf.com which is next to the launch. Occasionally they have live bands there in the summer while you have your meal.

Lowes Wharf is a public landing in Sherwood Maryland. The landing has not been maintained very well, but the Marina has a boat ramp that the owner of the Restaurant will let us use for our event. This area is very interesting, since it is the closet launch for a kayak to get to Poplar Island, an area known for catching rockfish. There are also two smaller islands near Poplar Island called Jefferson Island and Coaches Island. There are also plenty of shoreline to fish the shallows for Rockfish, perch and Reds. On the Northern point of Poplar Island, boats hang out there and live line for rockfish.

Since weather is always a concern, we will keep an eye out just in case we may have to switch the date for me to host it. The alternative day for this Meet and Greet will be Sunday the July 15th. If the weather is not good, then we will have to unfortunately cancel it.

Please reply in this thread if you plan on attending this Meet and Greet, and also if you are planning to attend lunch, so we can give an attendance count to the restaurant. I will keep a running list of who is attending for everyone.

In the past, we have had up to 31 anglers attend this event. Since this is an Inn with visitors who rent the rooms, please keep the noise down to a minimum in the morning when you arrive so you will not disturb any guests.

Don't forget your lure (please use unused or new lures, tackle, fishing gear, etc) for the bucket of lures raffle. The winner of this raffle will get all of the lures in the bucket. If we get a lot of participants we will have more than one winner.

Here is a link from the 2015 Lowes Wharf Meet and Greet to give you an idea.

I would also like to attend. I was there in 2016 and it was my first time catching a striper off my own kayak, which I will never forget. I caught about 30 that day, and even though none of them were quite 20", it was still an incredible trip. If I can't make it, it'll be because I'm throwing a surprise party for my gf. If that's the case then I may be messaging you Coop about just coming over the weekend before, and fishing with you, if you'd like to do that.

I'm out of town that weekend (7/14), if you are open to pre-fish the weekend prior as Pat suggested, I would also be interested.

        Thanks!

Thank you. You're always a great host, and I can't stress enough to anyone considering attending this M&G how good it really is. I think someone even pulled out a 24" speckled trout in 2016. And a beer and some good food at the restaurant only steps away from the launch is a really nice way to cap off the evening.

Also I encourage everyone to stop at Fisherman's Inn for their cream of crab soup, I always do if I'm crossing the bridge. It's the best I've yet to find, though my gf is related to the late Whitey Schmidt, and when she made one of his recipes, it was a close 2nd. I'm sad I never got to meet him, but we do own several of his books.

I would like to attend I've been a member of snaggedline for a few years and never done a meet and greet so sounds like fun I've fished the CBKA tournament the last few years so I've probably seen a few of you . Still a newbie to this kayak fishing but want to learn more. Any info or help on what to bring and types of lures or bait would be appreciated.THANKS ! Not sure if I can fit lunch into my schedule!

                          Hi Everyone,

I started kayak fishing last year, but still have limited experience on big water. Is there room (and folks with patience) for a newbie that is eager to learn? I would love to join, but don't want to be a hindrance to anyone. Honest thoughts and comments are welcome. I have all of the appropriate gear - I just need to take this next step.

                          Thanks,
