Pinch: I lived in Tidewater for 38 years and fished the area a lot-I never had much luck with specked trout at any of the bridge tunnel complexes. I caught a ton of Grey Trout at the tunnels but no specks. I caught specks around inlets and the mouths of creeks- hot spots for specks are the Lynnhaven and Rudee inlets on the Norfolk/Virginia Beach side of the Bay and Back River on the Hampton side.I used red and white Mirrolures casting up to structure, count down and then a fairly slow walk the dog retrieve of twitch, reel, twitch, reel. My new favorite casting lure is a Rapala XRap X10 in blue/silver bunker color for speckled trout. It casts good and they like it. It is about $12.00 but well worth it.
Good Luck- wished I could join you at the tournament, but duty calls-

X-Rap Rapala XR-10 in blue/silver color is my favorite- another good lure for speckled trout is L&S Mirrolures in red and white fished on a medium retrieve using a walk the dog rhythm- twitch the rod, reel, twitch the rod, reel.
I use a large gold Johnson spoon for redfish- they have a hard time ignoring that- also cut mullet on a 10/0 hook using 80 pound mono leader on a fish finder works well for big red drum- scale back for puppy drum- 6/0 or 8/0 hooks work well puppy drum up to twenty or so pounds- I have caught a ton of red drum on cut menhaden and spot, too.
One place I have caught a nice mess of puppy drum is just outside the rock jetty on the north side of the jetty (Rudee Inlet jetty) and fish off the left side about a hundred yards or so from the shore and about fifty yards off the jetty. There is a hole there that seems to hold the puppy drum. Sand Fleas work really good there for bait- you can dig them right on the edge of the beach in the surf wash. We used to get a bucket of them and catch just about everything with them around rock jetties including spadfish, togs, black willies, trout and stripers using fairly small hooks (1/0-2/0) on a fish finder rig.
If you have a cast net you can catch peanut bunker and corn cob mullet for bait around the gas docks at Rudee Inlet.
