        • Nice catching guys!

Looks like the bigger fish are finally starting to move in.

Fished another river further south on Friday and had good luck there too.

This cold weather ought to really get them going.

          • Good job, all the way around. Thanks for the photos and reports, from us living vicariously on other folks fishing.

            • I'm glad I made it out yesterday. I thought the weather was actually pretty good considering it is February, although by the time I got back home the wind had picked up quite a bit.

I started fishing down from the train bridge and caught my first and biggest keeper perch there. I also caught 5 or 6 cats there. I threw all the cats back. I may have to try one sometime because I could have gotten some good size fillets off of them.

Then I noticed everyone had congregated up from the train bridge in front of the docks and for good reason that's where the perch were. I caught 5 more keepers there and a bunch more smaller fish.

I caught all of my fish on minnows rigged on gold spoons (http://www.woofish.com/SHADSPOONS.html) I use for shad fishing with a 1.5 oz weight below.

Five of the keepers were female and one male. I've never tried fish roe so it'll be interesting to give that a try.

                • Spent the day looking out the window kicking myself for believing the weather guessers- Late Saturday afternoon/evening was the weather system they promised Friday night-but better safe than sorry- I have been known to push my luck- gearing up for a monster 2012 fishing season-it is still hard for me to think that one year ago I had never even sat in a kayak or a canoe. Bill and Martin took me for my very first trip to Wheatly lake in early March- we caught fish. too.

                      • Hey all you guys, I've never fished in that part of the Susky in a small boat. I've been on the Flats a lot but not in the river. I see the dam was pretty much generating at full bore or near so while you all were there. Couple of you guys mentioned it was difficult to hold bottom or you kept drifting off the fish.

QUESTIONS: So, how difficult was it to manage the current and hold position? Also looked like what little wind there was was blowing down river. Guess that made it even more difficult to hold position. Also, I've heard some places are really deep. So, is anchoring a futile/dangerous thing to do?

The current was a little stiff and it was hard to hold a single location yesterday. You just have to try and manage by either pedaling to stay in place (difficult), drift with the current bouncing the lure along the bottom (ok as long as you can control the drift through productive water) or anchor up. All the boats were anchored, although mine was too short. I think drifting along fishing and then retracing to the top again was a good way to go because it's limiting if you are anchored in a single place.

                            • Here are the links to the videos I took at the M&G. I finally took the time to learn how to post videos. Now I don't have an excuse not to post the kayak trotline video from 2 summers ago

                              • Cool videos. How was the fishing pressure? Based on your videos it looks like there was hardly anyone else there except you kayak guys. Pics that were posted on TF last year, same time same place was, always showing many other boats in the background.
