    Also, not on the way...
Grand Mart in VA beach (5min from wawa side road) has ton of crabs, last Sunday...not so lively, but Im sure they keep bushels in back.
Shrimp works!! I can second that!!
I would get frozen in a box, same as non-frozen, just one is still in a box and other out on a tray. Also try to get some fiddlers along with some blues, bro.

I was at kipto last Sunday with Comeonfish.
Comeonfish prepared the live bue crab and frozen shrimps from lotte in NoVA, kindly. Oceans east were out of fiddlers by 8am.
I barely, managed to get one shorty on blue crab, but some other guys with fiddlers done a lot better. Comeonfish caught mostly on shrimps with one keeper after I had left.
You just never know what togs want on that particular day.
Call in all tackle shops along the way down to hold some...what I would do.

Good luck and keep safe out there!!

It's a bit out of the way but I got some at alltackle call
Seahawk tackle they're just south of pocomoke before the va line and have quite the bait selection their number is 410-957-0198 hopefully they can help you out and dude lives there at his shop so if you get around that area super late or super early he can more likely than not still get you some bait or point you in the right direction. I'd love to come with yall im just not sure yet about work. I might come down sat night and camp out/car it with yall and fish Sunday that'd be awesome if I can

Before I launched the kayak at around 9:40am on the last Sunday, two came back because they were out of fiddler crab. They had 5 dozens of fiddler, but they were skunked that time. They called the bait store located at the north of the Kipto. But the store was out fiddler that time.

To me Freshness of bait is one of the most important factors in fishing.
Fiddler crab is alive. But it requires more concentrations because they are brittle when a tog bites.

I agreed with Redfish in keep changing cut blue crab often on the rig. This fresh cut blue crab made the differences. I mentioned once that cooked blue crab didn’t work.

Regarding blue crab – personally I like blue crab over fiddler. My blue crabs were good ones always. Also I found that in order to keep the live blue crab fresh, I had to keep them cold but not wet (using a milk jug or a few bottles of ice). If you don’t have ice, cut off the thumb of each pair of claws (only the thin claw). This way they are rather healthy, and can’t pinch you or other crabs

Fresh Shrimp – I think they are better at least in Kipto and in Spring. But you need ice packs, such as several bottles of ice.

This is what my wife tells to her friends usually:
Joe buys bulks of good shrimp and blue crab. He has a large freezer and a refrigerator for that. When the baits aren’t fresh enough for bait, he eats them.
She won’t say WE eat them.

Fresh is best! If you get blue crabs wait to cut them up till you are about to use them and even then go one at a time. Chum the legs and other shell parts!

As long as you have your receipt from purchasing them in MD i think you can use them.. that's how it was for blue crabs last fall when they were out of season in Va

Uh that's a negative. They are not allowed bc they are invasive and you cannot posses them. Watch out...

Got ya, it's the fiddler crabs that are real popular down there anyways right?

New to the Kayak fishing scene. My friend and I both just got ourselves kayaks. Wanting to grow into the craze. He and I actually planned a trip down there and I just noticed that some of you will be there this weekend. Hopefully you guys might be able to give us a few pointers while we are there. I honestly don't even know what gear I should have on board. I'm thinking of flounder fishing and maybe attempting tog (never tried). I think I will probably over pack my gear, but hopefully I will be able to weed out the things I don't need. If you guys notice an guy on an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13 thats me.

If you guys have any tips for flounders let me know. Anything would help. Flounders and croakers are our main goal for the weekend but as I mentioned we have never tog fished but would love to try.

We are taking off from college park, md at 4 pm. We are camping at the park for the night. Us being newbs we may have to start in the morning.
The best time spent is time that doesn't feel like it was spent at all. When it's worth it you'll give everything to do it all over again no matter what the cost.

See you down there DSon, Im still debating about leaving tonight so i can get out early tomorrow. I might also target flounder depending on if I do really well or really bad with Tog.

When it comes to gear, less is always more for me. It sucks fiddling through all your gear on the water just looking for one little bait.

The inlets around the shoals (Fisherman's Island area) should have flounder in them- I use a lot of strip (meat) baits for flounder on long shank hooks dragged on the bottom- catch you a fresh fish, filet it and then cut the filets in long strips approximately one inch wide by six inches long tapered from the front to the rear - if you can find them big river minnows (killifish) added to this setup is killer on flounder- VA Flounder regs-16 1/2 inches long- 4 flounder limit- no closed season. Maryland has different regs- 17 inches, three fish limit- Potomac River has the same regs as VA- 16 1/2 inch, 4 fish limit-

Here's what I've had success with for flounder down there. Get yourself some squid, some gulp alive swimming mullets and some bucktail jigheads 3/8 ounce to 1.5 ounce. Put the gulp alive mullets on the jighead and tip with strips of squid.

That being said, it might be a little bit early for flounder to be there in full force, but give it a go.

For tog, check out Rob Choi's tips on rigging:
                                http://www.angling-addict.com/2011/04/tautog-rig.html

You'll want to get right up next to the concrete ships and drop your bait in and around the holes where the ships have started to crumble apart.

A stout baitcaster will work well for both tog and flounder.
