  • Cinco de Mayo Mattawoman!!

I'm planning to head to Mattawoman this Saturday. Would like to catch a snakehead as well as some cats for KW.

I know there is a crew from the Kayakbassfishing forum heading down that way. So the more the merrier!!

Not sure what time I'll get there, but I'll probably fish all day long.

Mattawoman Creek, Bass Tournaments Every Weekend

Better call the Park officials at Smallwood State Park. Bass tournaments of more than 25 boats are required to reserve the ramps, etc. Yeah I know most kayakers launch from Slavin's Wharf (Indian Head), but a goodly number of bass boats in the creek can suppress the fishing. Launching up creek is a good idea.

Looks like the kayaks are going to "own" the upper sections.

I have never been to Mattawomen Creek. Is the intersection of Hawthorne (Route 224) and Livingston an option for launching? Navigable at low tide?

That's it. You need to cart or drag you kayak 50 yards to the launch and the water is deep there.

You also need to get out several times in the creek on the way down until you get to the tidal section.

I'm really considering fishing at Mattawoman this weekend, but I'm wondering how crowded it will be with all of the press its been getting lately about snakeheads and bass...

If I go, I will likely launch from Slavins before sunrise and head up creek from there.

I also heard from my grandfather that some Turkeys have been showing up on his farm lately in baltimore county, so I might go after them instead of fishing...

Matt, we chatter here on MKF before regarding the June Snakehead Round-up event, can you give me more specific information as to where, when you will be launching at for this “Cinco de Mayo Mattawoman” event. I need to talk to you some more about an ideal I have, and truly would like to actually meet you in person to discuss this with you, if possible.

I would launch from Slavins as well most likely and head up creek. I would try to get there as early as Ryan but it is not likely. I'd probably get there around 9am.

I definitely want to fish Mattawoman this Saturday. I was going to meet up with the KBF crew but not sure how much parking that area can hold. Might just get to Slavin's at daybreak. I am itching to catch my first snakehead. From everything I've been reading they must be throughout the creeks spawning. I am psyched in hopes of catch my first one.

It should hold 12 cars or more. It was not even 3/4's full with the shad fisherman. There even should be room for overflow on the side of 224 or 225.

I am new to Maryland’s waters (Virginia fisherman), where is Slavin's exactly?

Anyone have a report on what the water temp feels like on the Mattawoman? Am i going to freeze my knickers off without a pair of waders? I'd love to head down that way and try for snakeheads.

Rob--Do you think there'll still be shad in the river on Saturday?
