LOL....You can relaunch by using any of the Queen Anne's County Public Launch sites for Kent Island. Just as long as you do not launch before 6:30am and your SD cards/pictures are in line by 3:30pm so we can tally up your catch.

Fishing conditions such as wind, water quality, and fish/crab availability is why we expanded the launch options this year.

This is the link of where the launches are for Queen Anne's County Kent Island. http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/boating/kentislandinset.asp
Keep in mind that if you do launch from these sites, other than Camp Wright, you will need a Queen Anne's County Day Pass that you can purchase from one of our Sponsors, Angler's Sports Center on the West Site of the Bay Bridge off of Route 50. You can also get the pass on the East side from Chesapeake Outdoors.

Remember to bring your Kayak Carts or share one. You will not be able to drive to the campsites on the soccer field this week, so you will cave to carry your camping supplies to the spot that your pick on the soccer field next to the tree line. The tree lined locations are the closest camping spots near the beach launch.

Wow, just checked the weather for Saturday, 17mph out of the South. Looks like no one will be fishing the bay side Saturday. That is a big change in the weather. So much for the long range forecast. May be best to look into the other Kent Island ramps. Make a back-up plan.

Damn, that sucks! The only bright point is that the wind and tide should be pushing in the same direction for most of the morning to hopefully limit the choppiness.

Yeah, the weather seems to change daily. I would just go out to the Beach or Matapeake and look at the water conditions. Then decided on a launch point. Also not far from shore you can bottom fish an catch perch, bluefish, spots that can be live lined to catch bigger rockfish in the deep. You can throw platics at the shoreline and catch perch. You can throw out some crab cages baited with chicken necks and land a winning crab. The winds can make fishing the bridge challenging but not impossible. Just be carefule, and follow the buddy system while you are out there and have a good time. Other launch locations will give protection from the winds.

Moc, the rules state that crabs cannot be caught with traps. You can use only handlines or fishing rods, is that true?

I believe you can use traps, you just can't use a trot line.

                Ryan,

Looks like an update didn't get posted. Sorry about that. I'll see about getting it corrected. It should read:

All blue crabs must be caught using rod and reel, recreational traps, rings or hand lines. No trot lines are allowed.

There was a correction to the rules. It was suppose to have been changed. We must have missed it. I will look into getting it corrected. But for everyone's benefit, you can use handlines, fishing rods, nets, Rigs and traps. About anything EXCEPT TROTLINES....

If you're signed up you will see this message in your email. For those on the fence or planning to register at the event:

Looks like the weather may become a factor. Right now the marine forecast is for S winds at 15-20 knots with 3 ft. waves. Could be sporty on the main part of the bay. You may want to consider a backup plan to use some of the launches in more sheltered waters. There are reports of speckled trout being taken in Eastern Bay. Look for drop offs around points with good current flow. As of now any rain is forecast for later Saturday so there does appear to be a window early Saturday for us.

Speaking or rain, there have been numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms in the area all week. Camp Wright has been affected and the ground is very wet. Unfortunately, this means that parking will be limited to the parking lot. We will not be able to drive vehicles across the grass field to the camping area.

So, please bring your kayak carts. The camp does have 2 hand carts they use to move boats and these will be available to us.

Other than that, we're all set. Look forward to seeing you at the 2nd Annual CBKA event!

                        Regards,

One really good sheltered zone is just around by the Crab Deck, for those launching by the narrows. I went there for lunch last week and watched the people feeding the ducks left overs. Competing for the left overs were some large white perch, small rock and bluefish. Some looked to be of pretty good size. There are a lot of pilings in that area. Just a thought.

I think my plan may be Crab Alley Bay.

Who's launching elsewhere? I am a newbie at this and rough water, so I was looking for advice. Warehouse Landing creek and stay in the creek? Something else?

This will be my first time out on the bay as well. Where is the closest cove to the launch at camp wright? Is it easier to paddle to or drive and launch?
