How long will everyone be there? I get off of work at 2:30. Im assuming everyone would be long gone by then. The best time spent is time that doesn't feel like it was spent at all. When it's worth it you'll give everything to do it all over again no matter what the cost.

I'm unable to attend the January meet and greet.
But I am willing to host an Upper Potomac event. I'd prefer to host it in July or September when we should have low and clear water on the Potomac. The target species will be smallmouth bass. Here's a description of either of the two locations I propose. I like these locations because they could be fished without having to worry about vehicle shuttles to get kayaks, gear, and guys back to the launch point.
1. Seneca Breaks, Launching at Violettes Lock. (This location is in Montgomery County, MD and would be closer for folks from Southern Maryland). Launch in the canal and paddle out into the main Potomac River. Run a small rapids that are the remnants of an old rock pile dam. Can be run fairly easily in low water, just need to paddle fast and go straight. Once though the rapids, the rest of the float is pretty easy. Fish the islands and rocks for about 1.5 miles down river. A good idea to get out of your kayak a few times and fish while wading or while standing on a rock. About 1.5 miles down river pull out at the MD side of the river and drag or carry your kayak about 20 feet up the hill to the C & O Canal. Easy paddle up the canal while fishing for largemouth bass until you get back to your car at Violettes Lock. Can spend 4-5 hours on the round trip depending on how thoroughly you decided to fish the Potomac and how often you get out of your kayak. Not aware of a good local place to eat that is close to the river there. Could probably locate something, but it would require probably a 15 minute drive from the river.
2. Brunswick, MD. Nice parking area and launch ramp below the bridge crossing the river in Brunswick, MD. This location is in Frederick, County a few miles below Harpers Ferry, WV. Without using a shuttle we can paddle up river 1.5 to 2 miles or so until you get to the base of some really nice ledges. Paddle up river slowly and fish. Get out of your kayak and fish from shore and wade when you get tired of paddling. Get up river to the ledges and fish those. Float back down and fish some more. Can easily spend 4-5 hours fishing this area. Multiple restaurant options in Brunswick, MD, but I'd recommend trying El Sloppy Tacos. This location is a farther drive for people coming from Southern Maryland.Last edited by DanMarino; 01-07-2013, 01:42 PM.
