  • Stretching before launch

I swear I really need to integrate stretching into my pre-launch routine. I don't know if it's just the cold weather or what...but after sitting for a few hours, I began to get leg cramps (quads) after while. It'll also help with flexibility in the kayak which is a necessity when it comes to reaching around for stuff.

Just thinking aloud. Slow day on here...

Take your skirt off and fish. Just kidding. The cold has something to do with it. Your body naturally tenses and muscles tighten up when it's cold. That's why you feel that way.

          MYT,

I could not have said it better myself. There's alittle devil in all of us. I agree, there is nothing like a good seat. It makes a big difference. As far as staying warm, layering is the key. However, metro is having alot of fun with the Metro Express. I tend to stay warm by reeling in alot of fish. Also, there is nothing like walking to get in shape. I do alot of walking in the spring to walk off those winter pounds and limber up.

i dont talk enough about this, but i stretch all the time. not just because of the cold, but all year, before and after paddling.
we should all have a stretching regiment, kayaking is and athletic activity and the more limber you are the better your body is going to work.
i think most stop stretching out of high school or military and that is a major factor on 'feeling old'.
like surfdog said, "wait till you 50 and see how flexable you are", well you would be pretty flexable if you incorperate stretching into your daily life long routine .
im 40 with a list of injuries, vert ramp skatebording and snowbording has taken my name more than once, without stretching i would not be able to spend the hours in the kayak.
