Shark Attack Off Maui Coast Kills Man

A little disconcerting. I dangle my feet over the side most of the time while fishing. It gives me better access to my crate and supplies behind the seat.

Also gives the shark better access to your feet!

This story just popped up in my FB feed too. Just goes to show that you have to remain aware of the dangers in your area.

Sad story. I wonder if the mirage drive fins were the initial attractant?

I was thinking that he might have had a stringer full of bloody baitfish.

This is very unfortunate. I dont want to blame the victim for a shark biting him but i never understood the dangling feet in water knowing theres sharks around.

Sometimes common sense can go along way on the water if you use it.

Definitely a sad story. I actually swam at this beach at Mackenna State Park in Maui in March and snorkeled around the island you can see off the coast. Just adds to the reality they really are where we are in the water. This will definitely be on my mind the next time I make it back.

YES!!!i agree with all of you

Poor guy...I m used to just let my feet dangling in the water, easier on my legs, back and when i need something on my kayak crate, but no one knows what lurking underneath you,i ve heard that they (sharks) can live and thrive on freshwater, especially those rivers and trubutaries near saltwater.next time i m out i ll try to remind myself!!!

I always assume the Man in the Grey Suit is nearby, because where I fish most of the time, he is.

Although many of them are mostly harmless, there are 12 species of sharks that cruise the Bay.

Yup. Bull Sharks were caught near PLO. Even after they were caught I put my feet in the water. I don't have a death-wish but that's what I love doing and if I go doing what I love to do then it wouldn't be a bad way to go.
