  • What's your 2014 Goals!!

As I am sitting here suffering from withdrawal after not fishing for two straight weeks, I start to reminisce. This exact time last year, I had my first angler kayak delivered in my garage. I was so excited, my eyes burned from watching so many youtube rigging videos! After joining Snaggedline, I remember a thread about 2013 goals and my worthy contribution..."I want to catch my first kayak fish." It wasn't much of a goal, right after the New Year I got my first kayak fish...a LMB out of Centennial lake. It flopped out of my yak before I could snap a picture...such a rookie mistake. And so it began!

Snaggedline has been a daily staple of mine, better than any magazine on top of the toilet. Throughout the year, I tried to fish with as many members as I could. Not once did I feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Actually, I made some incredible relationships that are going to last the long term. So special thanks to all the Snaggedline members and hats off to the administrators!

    My 2014 goals:

    1. Catch my first speckled trout

    2. Catch my first redfish

    3. Concentrate 80% of my time on the Susquehanna. It's an amazing fishery and only minutes away.

Meet and fish with more Kayak anglers.

    Attempt night fishing.

Taking the things that I learned from not only other kayakers but my failed attempts and refine my techniques.

Catch my first out of slot RedFish!

Attempt to do overnighters fishing the Eastern shore MD.

Fish Rudee inlet and the VA Beach area.

I got my yak so late in the year that I've only been out a couple times, but the bug has bitten and I have a lot to accomplish next year.. Some key things would be

            1. Broaden my knowledge of big water fishing in general..

            2. Definitely do some night fishing, having three kids this is actually much easier for me to find the time for.

            3. Make a few weekend trips to NC, VA Beach, and the Eastern Shore.

            4. Continue to meet as many other kayak anglers as possible.

            5. Catch some of the species I've never caught before... Snakehead, Flounder, Tog, etc..

                        1) I'd like to go on one overnight float trip or camping via kayak. Probably raystown or the patomac.
                        2) catch a pike or musky via fly rod
                        3) 3 meet'n greets.
                        4) build bike trailer for kayak.

Me too. Eye doc just informed me I'll be needing cataract surgery real soon... a slight but perceptible deterioration of my sight confirms the diagnosis. Anybody been there, done that???

Anyway, my goal is more of a hope. I hope the Susky Flats has a very good C&R season, hopefully far better than last spring. Maybe something on order of the banner spring of 2012... geez! was that a good spring!!

Had cataract surgery on my right eye this past Monday. Can see distance now really well but cannot see close up at all. Left eye gets done on Dec 30. Looking forward to being able to see much better after that. The surgery is about 10 minutes but the prep is about an hour and a half...

                              1) Spend 4 day weekend exploring Eastern Shore.
                              2) Keeper Flounder
                              3) Purchase new Kayak....preferrably X-factor or Stealth 14 (an unlikely goal since my oldest Daughter is getting married and $$$$$$ needed)
