Man, Dogfish has the life. It would be sweet to be retired, but I have another 30+ years before then.

My hobby seems to be gathering hobbies. Fishing is topping the list at the moment, but the past few years I've gotten into bbq....smoking meats, cheese, crabs, salt....whatever. This seems to be my friends' favorite hobby.

I also have been playing hockey most of my life. Mountain biking and lifting are also key hobbies. The stock market has also taken a lot of time the past few years. I also can't turn down a good project around the house either. I also help organize a work football league once or so a year.

YakFish: I forgot the bbq. I have really gotten into that. I rarely cook inside during the summer. I really like watching the cook on the fishing series Fishing the Flats. One of his best was a softcrab sandwich, with a crab cake on top of the softcrab. I cook alot of my catch on the grill.

Outdoor activities include fishing, snorkeling, diving, boating, kayaking, tent camping, gardening, bbq'ing and some skiiing. My wife is an accomplished skier. I'll go but mostly hold up a pub stool! We enjoy wine and will make visits to area wineries occasionally as well.

Indoors; music. Lots of CD's and vinyl (alas, no turntable at the moment). I'm a concert junkie, as my wife will tell you. Probably go to 12-15 shows a year. Classic rock, mostly. Blues, some jazz, bluegrass, country & comedy. I also like watching NFL football and NHL hockey.

I've had many aquariums over the years. (Dogfish, did all the cichlids at one time or another except Africans and discus.) Once kept 3 large Oscars, a pair of Jack Dempsey's, a wood catfish, arawana and alligator gar. It was an event at feeding time. Toss in 50 goldfish and the tank would shake, there was splashing and then... quiet as the fish swallowed their meal within a rain shower of goldfish scales floating to the bottom.

Some of the coolest fish I've kept are natives such as crappie, bluegills, yellow perch, LM bass and stripers. Crappie hang together are are cichlid-like. LM bass are glutons and grow quickly. One ate a YP the same size as he was! Half of it stuck out of his mouth and he laid in a corner for a week digesting it. Amazing! Stripers were always patrolling together as a group. And the coolest was... a chain pickerel. Fast!

Currently, I have a 10gal community tank in my office at work. At home a 37gal freshwater community tank, a small, 2 level koi pond (about 110gal), a betta and, my pride and joy; a 150gal reef tank (couple pics attached).

Mostly anything fish and aquatic related. I'm a Pisces. Go figure!

Ah yes..forgot about the BBQ/Smoking as well. Embarked on building a low cost Big Green Egg substitute a few years ago. This is what I ended up with... It's still going strong nearly 3 years later.

Unless it's pouring rain, snow or bitter cold we bbq all winter long! Best platform for cooking, IMHO...

Guns and shooting sports. I compete in International Defensive Pistol Association events (took 1st plact at Blackwater last year). Still like to fly fish, trout streams mainly but this kayak fishing has become a big part of my spare time lately. Fly tying, reloading, brewing beer and cooking while home.

So it turns out that there's enough knowledgeable people on this site to discuss pretty much anything.

With all the cooks here we should have another section to discuss recipes

Here's one that I use with most of my fish:
I love to cook fish on a cast iron skillet. Get some olive oil hot and sear one side of the fish. At the same time throw in some butter and garlic cloves as well as a some fresh thyme. Get it nice and happy and then flip the fish. Put the garlic and thyme on top of the fish and spoon the melted butter atop the fish continuously while the other side cooks. There's some french word for this technique but I can't remember. This will continue to crisp the skin (if you left it on) as well as put the flavor through the meat. If it's a thick piece of fish, finish in the oven. This is perfect for rockfish.
