Man sorry to hear that bro! +1 on the acupuncture, it's my go to when I get major muscle injuries. I've had a lot of success with it over the years when I used to be heavy into competition. Also there is something like tiger balm but works better in my opinion. Its called zheng gu shui, and I was surprised that Amazon carries it (I used to have to get it from the Traditional Chinese Medicine stores). You would apply it like like any ointment and rub it in, but since it's liquid I put it in a small spray bottle for easy application. Here is the link for Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Zheng-Gu-Shui-...=zheng+gu+shui
Good luck!-Mustafa

The other thing I forgot to mention was you might check out a TENS unit, especially if it happens again. You can get a nice one for under $100 on Amazon or other places like that.
I will have to check out that zheng gu shui. Tiger balm works well for me, but I better get some of that stuff for my next bout with serious back pain if it really works better. I just recovered from my last strain a couple weeks ago, but I am building a deck and patio right now and will probably get a muscle strain at some point before I finish the job.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Never knew so many people suffered from back pain until I started researching it a little. Feeling a little stiff at this point but I've been able to do some light stretching and am feeling a lot better. A weekend of thunderstorms will keep me off the water so hopefully that extra time off will let me heal up a little more. All my buddies who don't work 9-5 have been busy texting me pics of flounder, weakies and snakeheads so being landlocked won't fly for too much longer.

Feel better man. It does bring up another point....am i the only one that thinks the Hobies are damn heavy? I workout several days a week, but after a full day on the water (slightly dehydrated, hungry and tired) am I the only one that questions his manhood when hoisting the Hobie on top of a SUV? It sounded ridiculous as I typed it but there are times that I wonder how the older guys do it.Jason

I don't have a hobie, but apparently my ride135 weighs more than the revo. I don't usually lift the entire thing at once. I carefully lift and prop the front of the yak on my rack and then slide it up the rest of the way. It is really not that bad even when recovering from a muscle strain.

They are definitely not light I will say that. I usually don't have a problem getting it on and off my rack, though. Looking into a cheapo bed extender to make things even easier on my decrepit self moving forward

A long winded update on this thread.... Had persistent pain in my back and neck since the injury that wasn't on track to clear up in 3-4 weeks like my doctor initially said it would. On Thursday I woke up, showered and while putting on my shirt for work started to notice a new kind of pain. I was now having incredibly sharp shooting pains from my back up under my ribs and into my chest. I couldn't breathe without extreme pain, had to hold my left arm like Bob Dole and couldn't let it drop. I had an all day conference at work but couldn't sit still so I left at noon.
Called my family doc while driving home, described what was happening and he told me to go to the ER. I said I was already there, they charged me $1000 and they did absolutely nothing! I had to do something so I reluctantly called a chiropractor that my friend strongly recommended. Set up an appt for the next morning, took my last muscle relaxer and passed out. When Friday morning came I could barely drive myself to the appointment. I could only drive with my right arm, couldn't turn my neck at all and every breath felt like being stabbed with knives.
When I got there, he did an initial evaluation and noticed something "not where it should be" in the left side of my back. Since the ER never did Xrays they never found that 2 ribs had slipped and become dislocated, pushing into muscle tissue and against a lung. He explained the physiology involved and basically said my muscles had been spasming for 2 weeks off and on to compensate for the initial injury that was never addressed and they would keep doing so unless it was fixed.
After a deep breath he slipped the ribs back into a place, did a few more adjustments, a deep tissue massage, electric stimulation and I was out the door. By Saturday I felt like a new man! Took it easy all weekend but am back to 100% range of motion and no pain not even taking any ibuprofen. I am amazed at how quick the relief was and what a great experience I had with the chiropractor. I also couldn't believe how much pain I was actually in until after it went away. This particular office is a hybrid of chiro/physical therapy so I will be going back to do some exercises to strengthen the affected muscles and should finally be good to go in a few weeks. Take care of yourselves out there and please learn from my story. If something feels wrong, don't put it off until you are almost in tears with pain. Also, don't label all chiropractors as witch doctors like I initially did. I can't say enough how much this guy helped me.

Romo,
I hope you are still feeling better. If you have any more pain, and it you feel any numbness or burning, please go to a othopedic, or neuologist right away, get and xray, or MRI and get fully checked out. It bothers me that no one did an X-ray on you especially since you had an "accident" injury.
I have had two back surgeries, and herniated discs are not a laughing matter and need to be dealt with.
One was caused by a fall, and I landed on my tailbone.
The other was caused when I was making the bed, and I snapped a sheet over my head and it caught my neck and snapped it.
Now I have serious back issues that run in my family so I;m sure these accidents only aggravated a bad back that I started with.
I also sold my Tarpon 120 which weighed 72 lbs, and bought a Hurricane Skimmer that weighs only 48 lbs. It made a huge difference for me and is mush easier to put on my SUV, and carry to a put in.
Good luck, I hope you feel better.Hurricane Skimmer 128
