  • Severn Report 10/11 & Finally my first keeper out of the kayak!!!

Hit the Severn after catching all shorts yesterday down at Greenbury Point. Got out about 1PM with the tide pretty slack but just starting to turn around. Went the other way today and fished over an oyster bar. All fish were caught in 4-6' of water near edges. The action was fairly steady for a hour or so with five fish caught as I made loops trolling through the same area. All were caught on the same color 6" paddletail you can see in the picture of the first fish. The biggest was right around 20" (Ignore the picture, He wasn't quite all the way touching the HawgTrough) and was caught first with all the rest coming in short. Seemed to slow down after an hour or so. I put in about another hour in the same area with no takers. Trolling back to the launch was also unproductive.

YES YES YES!! FINALLY! A keeper out of the kayak after a few years of a bunch between 17" and 17 15/16. I was beginning to think all rock were that size. It's in the oven now.

Congratulations on reaching a new milestone. I am seeing reports of quite a few keeper size rockfish being caught in different sections of the river. They have not been there most of the summer -- I'm glad they are there now.

That first striper is a really good fish.

                Congratulations!

It's nice to hear that the Severn is holding better stripers.

I was going to do the M&G this morning but hearing the heavy rain at 5:30 in the AM took away my ambition. Thought I'd get a quick one in and it paid off.

May go back tomorrow or possibly Triton. Trying to get as much in as I can as I just didn't get out enough over the summer. Thanks to all for the conrgats.

Nice Don! That's where Carter and I found our keepers! Oyster bars are usually the fist place I try to hit.
