Fished out of Clark's landing this morning and had a fairly good day. Launched at 5:45 and headed out into the Patuxent. By 6 I was hooked up with the first of a half dozen small rockfish (8-14") that I caught trolling my Z-Man in 5' of water. I wanted bigger fish so I headed back into Cuckhold. Picked up another small rock near the piers and headed deeper into the creek. I switched over to a Yamamoto crank bait that had worked for me in the past as I wanted to try deeper water. About a minute after I switched I had a nice 18" rock in the boat and another pass through the area gave me his brother. I trolled through that spot at least a half dozen more times with no more bites. In fact they were my last bites of the day as it seemed like a switch turned them off as I had no bites for almost an hour. Came off the water a little after 9.
I did have an interesting encounter with a CNR. I saw it gliding towards me just below the surface but I don't think it saw me. At the last instance it saw the boat and did a 180 that splashed water in the kayak and lifted it slightly from the pressure wave (no small feat in a PA). Thankfully I had seen it, not sure what I would have done if this was a surprise attack. Sorry no photos today - I accidentally left my camera on all day yesterday and there was no battery juice left.
