My brother in law came down from Pa to give kayak fishing a try. Despite the dam not generating any water I figured the river would be a better bet for a first timer so we launched Saturday morning in low, gin clear water. No activity on the river. No birds, no current, no baitfish to be seen. I threw topwater and the smallies cooperated. They were in the typical spots that included structure and any type of flow around a rock or point. I was hoping the stripers would make an appearance but besides a dink we settled for smallies. I love topwater and now my brother in law is going home and ordering a Slayer 10. I suppose he is hooked.
