I went out this morning with a plan, try for stripers early and then shift to flounder. In the words of Hannibal Smith, “I love it when a plan comes together “. I got to the fishing grounds just as light was making an appearance and saw the first splash of a working fish. For the next 45 minutes it was top water heaven, around 12-15 fish with 4 over 20” and smallest around 16” and I got a decent 14” or so bluefish on top as well. As the sun got just a tad high the big boys fled and smaller 12-14” fish moved in. As B. A. Baracus said, “l pity the fool who slept in”.
I migrated over to the flounder hole and my first fish was another bluefish while bottom bouncing Gulp. After that the flounder bite picked up and I ended up with a bakers dozen with 6 over 14”and a big at 15 1/4”. Keepers are in there, they have to be.

One of the flounder gave me his breakfast. Clearly they aren’t afraid to eat bigger food. I stupidly threw this overboard instead of putting it on a hook..

When things slowed I’d go back to the striper area and picked up plenty of 12-14” fish with occasional 18” cruising around. In my last pass in the flounder hole I picked up this 16” surprise.

All in all a really good morning. My toe thermometer told me the water temp had cooled a couple degrees as I no longer use electronics. If you’ve fished with me you can guess where I was, it’s the only spot I won’t mention as it’s small and can’t handle an armada of boats invading, or I can’t handle an armada invading. Rocktober coming.
