  • 06-07-20 Report and finds

Been a long day. Launched and fished the St. Mary's River this morning around 6 to fish the sunrise and the falling tide. Not much to report, lots of grass and a few dink rockfish and some perch. I had some paddle tails and a Capt Bert's Perch Hounder out. Tough morning, got off the water around 10ish. Not much traffic or wind when we started, that changed as the morning went on. Several rec kayakers and power boats made their appearance. Went and took care of some chores during the tide shift. Back out at 530 PM, this time launched more towards the mouth of the St. Mary's/St. George from private property. Only fish landed were decent sized perch. Filled the stringer. Action of note was losing two 4" paddle tails to chompers of some sort at two different points towards and at sunset. My buddy was running a pearl/chartreuse tailed Gulp and I had a pink/clear glitter Bass Assassin. Both bit offs took 2/3 of the plastics. Clean bite off, so blue or macs? Only other item of note was this 1966 "Fishing in Maryland" that was given to me this week. I found it to be an interesting time capsule and in remarkably good condition. It was found in a house that is scheduled for demolition in Scotland, down by Point Lookout State Park. Note the sweet maps and centerfold. Plus an article by Lefty Kreh! Tight lines and stay safe
out there. Im currently debating fishing tomorrow morning, but will most likely be out in the afternoon. Time to get some shut eye.20200604_185136.jpg20200607_010150.jpg20200607_010241.jpg20200607_010421.jpg20200607_010534.jpg

Thanks for the report Viet. Considering its age, it looks like it's in great shape. Wonder how it was like fishing in the 1960s.

I was 12 years old in 1966. I recall having that very issue you now own. You're right. It's a time capsule to a different era in MD fishing.

I loved the annual Fishing In Maryland magazines, especially the maps. In my kid mind I wondered how they knew that those little black fish symbols on the maps would mark the precise spots to catch fish. And there was reference to the "Dumping Grounds" on the big Chesapeake Bay map. That was extremely mysterious to me. What was dumped there? The record catch pages intrigued me too. I wanted to know where the "Private Pond" was that had all the big fish.

Thank you for sharing. Your post brought back good memories.

I was down that way Viet on Saturday morning. It's Blues for sure, saw them bust bait and trolled thru them and got a small one about 6-inches. Then while perching, got another one about 8-inches. Destroyed my paddles tails, those jokers.

The bite is getting weird with the grass and increasing water temps. They are making us put the work in. Tight Lines
