Are there catfish other than channel cats in the area? This felt bigger than any channel cat that I've ever caught and I've caught them up to 12 lbs. I dont think they get much bigger than that. I've heard of flatheads and blue cats up closer by the dam, but I'm not sure how many are really around. I'll bet it was probably a monster carp that I actually snagged into...

The YP we caught today were basically on the ledge, they seem to like it there.

Thanks for the Pix Chexone, I appreciate it. It was a good time as everyone said. I can't wait for the M&G up there. Hopefully, the perch will be in force. That big fish could have been almost anything including Pike, Musky, and even strugeon ......... Susky always have some monsters ...... glad you met one .......

The YP we caught today were basically on the ledge, they seem to like it there.

I caught this one last April just a little further north of the jean roberts launch. In fact, I caught 2 the same size that day from the same spot. It was about 33", the biggest cat I ever caught. So yeah, you can catch some big cats up there.

Also, check out the other photo that I took of a guy holding his photos. I met him november a year ago fishing at the dam. We got to talking and he was speaking of the catfish he caught years ago above the dam. He happened to have pics and I was so amazed that I took a photo of him with his photos. I posted the whole story about a year ago when I met him. It was pretty interesting.

I caught a 25lb flathead catfish above the dam a few years ago, but the fish yesterday felt bigger than that. This is why I love fishing the susky, there is always the possibility of catching something very big or different.

100% agree with you shady. That's why it's one of my favorite places to fish. If I could pick only one area to fish for the rest of my life, it'd probably be that area because of all the fish that come through. Heck, atlantic sturgeon used to be prevalent in the area...today a catch like that is extremely rare though.

oh man... I so wish you'd pulled that thing up to see what it was... the proverbial "one that got away".

Right in front of a piling for the Rt40 bridge, there was a very turbulent current...almost like a whirlpool... I marked LOTS of big fish there on the bottom... it goes from 12 to 60 ft almost instantly. Couldn't get a bite though. If I dropped the GoPro down there on a heavy sinker, I wonder if there would be enough light to see what's there. (would suck to snag the GoPro though)

I think I stumbled on the same spot that you did. Between the pilings there looked to be a ledge from 15'-60'. I saw lots of fish but the way the wind was blowing and funneling through, I couldn't maintain my location, nor my jig. Now I'm wishing I could have worked it a little harder but I brought only perch equipment.

I've caught walleye up near the dam. I wonder if they venture further down as well.

I've caught stripers, walleye, tiger musky, pickerel, crappie, shad, yellow perch, white perch, carp, catfish bluegills, large and small mouth bass, and saw a rather large sturgeon on the Susky over the years (decades) ...... oh .... and a trout 1 spring at the mouth of Deer Creek while shad fishing .........
