One thing I forgot to mention... They are doing construction on the foot bridge where I normally launch right now. So access to the free launch that I was just writing about is currently fenced off. It's ticking me off, because they are taking forever for what is a very minor project, and it was not even necessary to fence off the kayak launch to make the repairs to the foot bridge. They have no idea how precious a good natural kayak launch is on the Potomac.

Hooking into a big blue cat via kayak?!? Potomac sleigh ride for sure! Might be asking for trouble, though. This one from the fall of 2009 with Capt. Mike.
Hey PotomacTide, I've been scoping the Mt.Vernon area via Google maps for possible launch sites. I've targeted Riverside Park but have yet to get there. Shoot me a note if you ever want company. I fish Pohick and Leesylvania in the summer. Be nice not to have to pay to launch! Thanks for posting about the hidden launch.

The deep channels should hold the giant cats- like the 70-80 foot depths around the Harry Nice Bridge...problem with the Nice bridge is the hang ups and obstructions once you actually hook a big fish makes Landing it unlikely"Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

Nice fish John. I've caught some nice size fish out near the Riverside Park area, but nothing near that size. If your interested in Riverside Park, I would highly recommend the free launch behind the picnic bench. Its only about a quarter mile upstream. There is great parking at Riverside Park and the water is close to the parking lot. But it's a bit of trick dropping into the riverside in that area. Its a bit of a dip down into the water and it has rocks and vegetation obstructing access. It's still very doable to launch from Riverside, but you might be risking a twisted ankle and a roughed up yak trying to get it into the water. I'll be out there starting in the late spring, so give me a holler sometime after April if interested. Maybe you can show me the ropes in Pohick, as I have not been out there in my kayak yet.
