First post in a long time. I took a long break from fishing and have been trying to get out a lot more lately.
Launched at Piney Point around 0630 and worked the shoreline during outgoing tide for specs and red drum. The grass is pretty thick now and was difficult to troll or cast any lures in anything shallower than 4 feet.
There was a lot of bait around and they could be seen swimming around the surface, but not a lot of bites.
Managed to get one redfish around 20” on a red jig head with 4” chartreuse swimming mullet trolling along the weed line and my buddy hooked up another one blind casting I think but we never got to see it as his line broke.
It was a slow day with no other bites but was happy to get my first ever redfish and a keeper at that!
With the remainder of the summer I think I’ll either stick to snakehead fishing or plan a drive to either OCMD or VA beach as it’s been pretty slow for me around the PLO/Piney Point area the 2 trips I’ve gone.
