Nice fish!! Sucks about the PFD. Hopefully you didn't have anything in the pockets. If I lost my PFD I would also lose my knife, whistle, pliers, camera remote, iPhone...

Thanks for the advice!

Harbor Hospital, Canton or Fort Armistead are all good spots to fish the Patapsco. There are good fishing opportunities near all those launches.

there are still fish with size in the area!
Launched @3 on Sat 11/17 after talking to a power boater who had just hauled out.
He had a cow on the bottom of his boat he caught in 12' of water near the Fort. I marked an occasional fish but hooked up with none
I'm really liking this area for the lack of traffic on the water unlike happy hour at Jonas Green.

Zimm, were you at Harbor Hospital on Saturday afternoon?
My son an I were fishing there and launched around 2:15PM. We went to the left under the bridge and when we were coming back we saw a kayaker paddling off towards where the cruise ships dock. Maybe that was you?
I paddled out a ways and caught my small striper around 4:15PM while trolling a crank bait.

That probably would have been me.
the prop wash when the cruise liner took off moved a few fish around.
i wanted to try the edges of the wash , hoping they'd be waiting for my bait to swim by.
I need trolling lessons apparently . Last week I paced a boat to get a feel for the pace I need to paddlle to effectively get the lures in the zone. 1/2 oz jigs don't seem to get deep enough to be productive and I'm hesitant to try 1 oz.

That was you then Zimm. We were near the bridge and ramp when the cruise ship took off.
Have you ever tried trolling with a bottom bouncer? I'm going to give that technique a go the next time I head out there. I've got some 3/4 ounce bouncers that do a good job of getting lures down in the 25 foot range.

When fishing the deeper channels in and around 30'+ deep the I'll use a 1oz jighead. Sometimes if the wind in pushing me I'll switch up to 1.25oz jigheads. Keep in mind I'm mostly vertical jigging, not trolling. Trolling will require adding additional weight in the form of an inline trolling sinker in the 2oz range. When my FF is showing good marks they are almost always on or near the bottom. So you gotta keep your lure where the fish are, and that takes weight.Howard

I fished the inner Patapsco launching from Harbor Hospital, Tuesday, 11-20, 2012, 10:30am-2:00pm. In spite of good fishing conditions I did very poorly. I caught a couple of micro dink stripers and over a dozen white perch, 4 of which were big enough to keep. I concentrated heavily cruising all around the channel edges and their drop-offs between HH and McHenry without seeing a single blip on the screen that I thought may have been a decent striper… nothing! Also jigged some near shore structure. Conditions were good. Water vis was 3’ or more, winds near calm, mostly cloudy. I did mostly jigging soft plastics and a little slow speed trolling. Dunno, they just weren’t there in high enough numbers to show up on the FF. Other years when I have scored nicely in the channels the big stripers showed up very well on the FF, no doubt about what I was seeing.Howard
