My mother-in-law was in town again, so I went out in the morning in search of fish for dinner. I wanted to get some blue catfish, and didn't have much confidence in the Occoquan after my last couple trips
...so I went to the Mattawoman, where I at least knew where some catfish would be holding out.
The day started out nice and calm, and got windy very soon after I anchored up to soak some bait. I caught a small white perch, and 2 23" blue catfish right off the bat. However, the next 3 hours were uneventful and cold. I went home with 2 catfish, one of which we had for dinner. The fillets from the other are in the freezer for later.
The Mattawoman looks like a totally different place in the winter from the summer. From fishing there in the summer, I would never have thought that the creek was so wide. Crazy...
