Any boat that can float will be on the water over the Memorial Day weekend- and just about all the rental boats will be rented, too- it will be a zoo---

Then add every jet ski, parasail, paddle board, and wind surfer...not a place to be yak fishing for this guy.

Ok, dumb question. Did he hit the lure or was he snagged? I've never actually caught a skate but I think their mouths are a little smaller and more centered than the placement of that hook? Just wondering.

BTW, I lookforward to another eastern shore trip with you in June or july. Maybe next time there won't be 20 knot winds.
definitely some kudos for that restrained reply lol

I wonder if I head over to DE will the traffic be minimal compared to OC anyhow seeing as a lot of traffic is coming and going I don't feel comfortable being on the water or just leaving it on the roof. Anyway I guess I will stick to shore fishing for this trip thanks for the heads up.

                Tufnik,
Thank you for so bravely offering up your highly suspect skate fishing tactics for the thorough critique of the masses. Just the other day I was trolling for carp with my 2 oz saltwater spoon on a slip bobber rig and for the life of me couldn't ascertain why I wasn't getting the prized, slimy gamefish I so highly sought. Now I know: aim for the carp's wings, as you smartly did.

(In all seriousness, A+ for effort. I think the long cold winter took its toll on fish returning). I've endured my fair share of 1 fish outings this season.

Are you talking about car or boat traffic? If boat traffic, it's not bad at CHSP when you go to the Inner Wall, even on 3-day weekends. It can get heavy at RI so you have to watch the boats in the channels. OC Inlet is generally heavy, especially with the head boats, jet skiers, jon boats, para-sail boats, etc on 3-day weekends.

That video was suppose to be an entertaining joke .....a short unexciting clip......sort of a ha, ha.......

I've foul-hooked fish before, but I'm not quite sure about this skate. I think I was momentarily preoccupied with something and I let the rig drag the bottom with the rod in the holder. When I later pulled up to continue jigging, I felt resistance. So, not sure if the skate attacked the bucktail and got hooked in the process or if it was snagged. In any case, I avoided a skunk......ha, ha...and whoopi-doo......

THanks for the report. I took a flounder charter last summer there in OC. Looking forward to put what I learned to test on the kayak.

Well at least you got out there!! I hope to get in some Flounder this season too! As you said there are a million ways to go after Flatties... I had GREAT success with a much slower jig action than that erratic type of action. I'll try different ways to try to get them to bite.

I'm still waiting for that vid of you catching a nice one and screaming SAMMMwwwiiiiccchhhh!!! LOL That would make my day!

I was in such a need for a "salt fix" that I took a mental health day last Friday, knowing Saturday was going to be at best, marginal with predicted 70% chance of thunderstorms and Sunday was Mother's Day- since then the dreaded gusting cold north winds make a salt fix difficult to get-
