  • Good day on the water

Left the house at 5:45 a.m. this morning for a quick fishing trip- Pulled up at the launch at Piney Point 6:50 a.m. and fished for an hour at the bridge catching lots of dink striper and four small speckled trout-decided to troll- put the kayak in my truck at 12:30 p.m. headed home with a full stringer- all caught trolling- four perch average 12 inches- five croakers average 14- biggest was nearly 17 inches and my first Maryland Kayak caught keeper redfish 18 1/2 inches- I caught ten croakers trolling but let five go...pretty much the same with perch- caught six perch, kept four- caught two stripers right at 18 but they weren't 18 inches- 17 7/8 inches or 17 15/16 inches- so no keeper stripers today- had six redfish all over 16 inches, two right at 18 but not quite- not a bad 5 hours of fishing, though-

The stripers hit XRap olive XR10- Bass assassin salt and pepper on a 1/4 oz. jig head caught one big redfish and one big perch- 1/4 inch red jighead with white 4 inch gulp caught a dozen or so stripers and one big croaker- 1/8 oz. red jig head with 4 inch chartruese gulp caught the most-

Those pups are one pretty fish, hope they come back in the numbers of last year. You really had a good mix of fish, fun day for sure.

All on artificial bait- and a nice big bag of skinless, boneless filets-

Nice catch. We crossed paths this morning on Rt. 5. I was heading to St. Cements Island.

Now the hard part, and it isn't the cleaning. It's deciding what to cook first!

Fished Heron Island Bar (mile SE of St. Clements Island), Loaded with small rockfish to 15”. When the tide started to move we fished the east side sandbar on St. Clements. It had a steady mix of rockfish, croaker and perch. (Only one puppy drum) My friend Jim had a 22” and 20" rockfish on that spot.
