The Sandy Point boat ramps had ice, as expected... a little more than a half inch, for about 20 feet out. Nothing an evolve/mirage powered yak can't easily break through though.
With the air temperature 32 to 36 this morning, I put my cold gear to the test. I was toasty throughout, due in large part to the absence of wind. You can see from the pics how flat it was out there. I only saw one boat all day. It was cool seeing thick ice on the rockpiles.
I marked a decent amount of fish, but getting them to bite was tough. I only managed a nice fat and strong 24" striper near the western rockpile, on the bottom as the outgoing current peaked. I was using a 1oz jighead with chartreuse 6" BKD.
I'm glad I got out. It was very peaceful... And I got my first 2014 fish.
