Thanks for the link. I think it matches the description of a hickory. The lower jaw definitely jutted out farther than the upper and you can kind of see the spot right behind the gill plate. I think the other one I caught was an American Shad now though as it had a line of spots.

I fish the mattawoman regularly in april for the hickory shad/ herring run. No American Shad, all hickories. They have spots. They travel far upstream up the 225 bridge and my personal best is 19 inches.
