Was glad to see some new faces this morning, can't remember everybody's name, but please add your info on this thread. I know J.A.Veil, Raptor, and Pc4sun all caught fish with Raptor pulling in about a 32" Striper. I had a total of 3 with the smallest being 15". Now here comes the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly fish story: I was trolling across the Severn and thought I hooked something on the bottom. When I went to turn my kayak the fishing line got tangled in my rudder. I laid my rod down and unhooked the line from the rudder. I picked the rod back up and started reeling to pull my self to where I thought I was hooked. I then had the line start pulling SLOWLY in the other direction. After a brief fight I pulled up one of the largest Stripers I had hooked. I got him to the side of the yak, grabbed my fish grips to get a good hold, (all the while thinking what a great picture this is going to be) and it spit my lure out and away it went. Worst moment of the day but the second worst moment was when I landed a 15" striper, did take a photo of it, and lost my rod overboard never to be seen or heard from again. Only good thing is that it was not one of my fine fly rods.

    All-in-all a good day.

I think the picture of the kayaker was dkwon

It was a beautiful morning on the Severn. Several of our group headed upstream. Pc4sun (Peggy), Raptor (Terry), and I headed downstream. A short time later I deployed the trolling rods. Within 15 minutes, I caught 3 stripers. Peggy and Terry each caught stripers there too. We went looking for larger fish and moved to another spot that produced for me last week. I quickly caught a 21" fish, then 20 minutes later caught a personal best Severn striper of 29". It provided a memorable fight on a St. Croix Premier 7 ft medium action rod and Shimano Stradic 3000 reel.

Terry told me he got one even larger in the same area a bit later.

On our way back to Jonas Green, I trolled near shore and along the end of several docks. I picked up another 6 stripers on the way in. I ended with 11 stripers for the morning, with 4 smalls, 15", 16", 17", 19", 20", 21", and 29". All fish were caught on 4" to 5" paddletails. All four of the lures shown in the photo caught fish this morning. Weather permitting, I expect to be back on the Severn Tues morning.

Harry, John, Peggy, Terry, et al.,

Congratulations on a terrific morning of striper fishing.

Sorry to hear about your rod, Harry, but take consolation in the fact that you really know how to pick good days to fish.

It was great meeting all of you! John, if the weather is decent, I will be heading back out there as well.

I boated 2 dinks and 1 got away while I was fiddling with my fish grips.

Looks like you all had a good day on the water.
Sorry to hear about your rod loss Harry. Makes me think though... I'm reluctant to use my rod leashes... maybe I should run down to Wally World and get some pool noodles.

What size are those jig heads?

I was out there from 830-12...sorry I missed you all. I just couldn't get there sooner. What size jig heads were you using? I got absolutely no love today. I worked 1/2 & 3/4 oz jigs with 6" BKD. I stayed between the bridges today. Not sure why I got skunked today. Glad you all kept the lines tight.

I don’t know exactly what weight the heads were – most were in the range of ½ to ¾ ounce. I have a bunch of miscellaneous jigheads in my tackle box. When I need a new one, I grab the first one I see that seems to be in the right size range. The chartreuse one with fringe around it (Specialized Lures Bug) was 1-ounce size. It caught the two largest fish today, perhaps because it ran deeper. The two on the left of the photo were made by snaggedline member Chex and were part of the CBKA tournament gift bag last year. I just added three Chex jigheads to my tackle box the other day and tied two of them on. They catch well and look sharp (Thanks Mike!)

Terry - I did have good success today. But you had the largest fish of the day -- nice job. You have demonstrated that paddle-powered kayaks can troll very effectively too.

                              Mike -

Sorry the fish were not kind to you today. I often fish with BKDs for jigging and casting but do not usually troll with them. The lures I pulled to day all had paddletails that gave a different looking swimming motion. Next time try some of those too.
