The winds were only 4mph to 8mph in the morning with a high temperature during the day to be 85 degrees. SurfDog wanted to try out the new Beverly Triton Beach Park, so we all (SurfDog, Grady Black, Coop1486 and myself) met up at the Wawa on Route 2 in Edgewater at 6:30am. I was actually too early. I arrived at 6:00am and Coop1486 arrived next at 6:11am. SurfDog arrived 10 minutes later with Grady arriving just before 6:30am. After getting some early morning coffee, and snacks, we followed SurfDog to the park. Well, we got there at 6:40am, but the park did not open until 7:00am. We got our gear together while waiting for the guard to come and open the gate. It was now 7:30am and the gate was still locked, so we could not drive our cars down to the launch to drop off our yaks. Coop noticed that a side pedestrian gate was not locked. The gate was just wide enough to get out kayaks through. Since the guard was late or not coming at all, we decided to hauled our kayaks down to the launch by foot. Of course as soon as we were ready to launch, then the guard shows up and opens the gate...go figure. At least we will have an easier time leaving.
After we launched, I trolled salt and pepper paddle tail Bass Assassins south towards a channel ledge. Coop1486 headed the same way while Grady and Surf headed straight out to bottom fish bloodworms and fish bites. I did not get any bites trolling so I headed over to join Surf and Grady bottom fishing. Surf caught the first couple of croakers for the day. Once I got into position, I began catching 9 to 10.5 inch croakers. I even caught a jumbo spot and a smaller spot. Coop then landed his first croaker of the day followed by Grady Black. It was a nice day. We all got the skunk off and the weather and the water was beautiful. This is a nice free launch, and I will definitely be back. By 11:00am we were heading to shore to pack up and head out.
