Shady, Sun and I were at Kiptopeke looking for tog yesterday. We caught a few shorts, but that was not to be the highlight of our trip. Instead, we found red drum. Not one, not 2 or 3... but 99 red drum, all between 21" and 26".
I'm only exaggerating a little, because Shady has photographic evidence of his 20 redfish for kayak wars, and Sun and I had a bit more time on the fish than he did. I estimate that Sun caught 30 and I caught somewhere around 25. Our drags got a workout.
The drum ate EVERYTHING we threw at them, including topwater plugs, gulp mullets, redfish magics, purple swimbaits,.... the only thing that did not result in an immediate hookup was a whole crab that I tried for kicks.
We got lucky. They were there. Sun found them for us. Often, all 3 of us were hooked up at the same time. We were laughing hysterically.
And to think we almost did not go. The wind report on Friday looked terrible, but Sun said "I'm going!" so we went... thank you Sun!
