If anyone is going out there before the M&G for more intel (I mean to actually fish), I just may go too. Never been there, but I'd like to fish there because I may have a schedule conflict on the 9th.

July 9 Snakehead Hunt M&G

This hunt sounds really cool, but the 9th appears to be a schedule conflict for me.
How about having a No-can-do-9th M&G? I'm thinking 25 Jun, 2 Jul or 3 Jul.
Any interest? If so, DO NOT response to this thread. Keep this thread for the people going on the 9th. I'll create a new thread under this Main Forum. Respond on the new thread.Last edited by tufnik; 06-13-2011, 11:08 PM.2015 Hobie Outback (yellow)

Ronaultmtd and I went there yesterday (see our post, "Father's Day," under The Boatyard.
Anyway, here's a couple notes.
- I asked the fellow working there. There is no charge to park and launch.
- There is a parking area on the lower level within 50 feet of the boat ramp. Maybe 6-8 cars fit. Overflow parking is at upper level, probably 50 yards from the boat ramp. Couple of truck/trailer lots. Next to the lot is a playground and pavilion. If there are people there, like the bunch we saw this past Sunday, parking may be tight.
- There is this neat kayak roller launch. The wooden bridge to the launch is narrow. I barely fit my wide stance yak cart through. If you leave your yak on the roller and run back to return your cart to your car (about 100 yards away at the upper level), there's a possible queuing wait. You could launch from the roller to free up the roller, dock the yak on the pier, and then go take your cart to the car.
- If you don't use the roller launch, you could launch off the boat ramp or over the riprap between the piers. Either way, you scratch up your yak hulls.
- There are lots of weeds along the sides as you move along the middle water way, which is about 10-15 ft deep. The real fishing appears to be in the lily plants and cover. So, you'll have to maneuver within it.
- Near the edges of the water way and in the plants there is a lot of undergrowth. This made my FF go bananas.
- For those with electrics, it's fine in the deep, but you may struggle with the undergrowth. I often picked up weeds in the prop. Several times the weeds clogged my motor and it stopped running. Thanks to my externally installed circuit breaker, the automatic reset worked well and I had power within several seconds. Also, I have an easily retractable motor, so I simply clicked it up and made my way through the thick weeds and plants. Not sure if the retracted Hobie fins will guide over the weeds.
- You know, I don't think you really need the motor there. There's so much fishing areas within a thousand yards from launch.
Hope that helps, and have fun!2015 Hobie Outback (yellow)

Alright, the poll suggests a lunchtime meet then hit the creek in the afternoon into evening for the snakehead hunt. Two choices for lunch: BBQ or seafood:
1) Dale's Smokehouse. 4645 Indian Head HWY in Indian Head, MD 20640. (301)-743-6777. Only caveat is they do not sell beer. http://www.yelp.com/biz/dales-smokehouse-indian-head
2) Grinder's Seafood. 4665 Indian Head Hwy in Indian Head, MD 20640 (301) 743-7344. They do sell beer. No wine or hard stuff. http://www.yelp.com/biz/grinders-seafood-indian-head
These places are actually next door to each other. I called both and they provide counter service. There are enough tables we can put together for a bunch of us. Both were suggested to me by Capt. Mike Starrett, a local guide.
Let me know if you plan to participate so we can get a head count and I'll make a reservation for 1PM.

Thanks for the info, Ron. I've read that bending the hooks upward helps with the Spro frog. I looked at the Kopper's when I got it, and you're probably right about that helping. The other tip I read about short strikes on the Kopper's frogs was to trim the "legs" a bit.Yellow Hobie Revo Rube Goldberg
