I have been using an Alberto knot to tie my braid to fluor leader. Three times I have had the knot fail while casting topwater plugs. I am using 15 pound power pro and am using 20lb XPS fluoro leader. I have never had the knot fail on a fish but it has failed when casting. It seems like the knot is hitting my eyes and just blowing apart. I just sat down to learn how to tie the FG knot but I don't have a PhD. in mechanical engineering. What am I doing wrong?

I recently started tiring the FG as well. The key for me, besides tension on the braid was to pull the mono out (away) from the wrap side after each wrap. This keeps the knot from wrapping on itself and it will end up being the thin knot you are looking for. The first time I tied it I didn't do that and it turned out horrible. I also found that for thinner lines like 8 or 10 pound test that 30 wraps vice 20 were needed to make the knot stronger. Hope you can make it work because it really is a nice knot when done.Mike

Jt knot works really well and is very small, it will go through the guides without problem. Look for it on you tube. Pay close attention to how you pull it tight. If you pull it tight incorrectly it will slip out. Great knot. Also I have the knot wars app on my phone that shows you how to tie many good knots.

How do I reply to someones comment? That comment above was for cowpokey. I hit reply with quotes and ended up in the middle of your last comment. Secondly, how do you tie a uni when attaching braid to fluoro? I thought that was a terminal tackle knot. And lastly, scoreioreno, I don't think I can ever go back to mono after using braid. No twist, no stretch.....Tarpon 120, no electronics, no pedals.

I use the Alberto when light tackle fishing. 20lb braid to 15lb mono leader. My leader is long enough that I have 2 - 3 wraps on the reel when I go to cast and I've never had any issues of it breaking while casting before. If I don't clip the mono tag end snug with nail clippers I'll sometimes hear/feel the knot hitting the guides on a cast. That's odd that you're having failures so readily, and only when casting
When I use heavier a heavier leader, say 50lb mono, for bigger fish or areas with lots of abrasion, I usually tie the knot so it's outside my guides when casting. With the heavier leader the knot really slaps the guides on the way out.Brian

I've used other ones in the past but have really come to like the Albright knot. Easy to learn, holds up great. Sure you do have one come undone on a rare occasion but that can happy with any knot
