I started kayak fishing last year, but still have limited experience on big water. Is there room (and folks with patience) for a newbie that is eager to learn? I would love to join, but don't want to be a hindrance to anyone. Honest thoughts and comments are welcome. I have all of the appropriate gear - I just need to take this next step.
Thanks,

Just chat with any one of us and we will provide you any information we have. It is still early. I am sure folks will be posting what lures to bring, etc.....MOC a.k.a. "Machburner the Crab Whisperer"

Shoreyaker, Steve,
I look forward to meeting you both at this M&G.
You asked about lures. If I was bringing only one lure to Lowes Wharf it would be this one:
P1030686 (2).jpg
It's a 1/8 oz. jig with a 3 inch paddletail.
In fact I cast this very lure near Lowes Wharf a few weeks ago and caught a lot of stripers with it.
You can troll it or cast it. If a striper is nearby you'll soon feel its tug.Mark

Thanks for the information. How about colors - white and chartreuse are always good to have, right? How about shad/bunker pattern?2015 Hobie Revolution 13

My guess is that white and chartreuse are the most common colors used and you'll do fine with them. But give other colors a try too. It's hard to go wrong.Mark

Well, I am back from being out of town and I will sign up for this Meet and Greet. It is one of my favorite ones. There are other great Meet and Greets that I missed out on, like the one in Southern MD, so I do not plan on missing this one.
Coop1486, put me down for fishing and lunch. I will like to reconnect with old time Snaggedliners and meet new ones. You can never know too many fishing buddies.MOC a.k.a. "Machburner the Crab Whisperer"

Ok guys, again, this is my first trip and I am looking forward to it. Trying to prepare as best I can. I have two rods that I am bringing - a lighter rod for perch and a heavier rod for stripers. The lighter rod can probably handle stripers too, but my question is should I bring and ultra-light for perch only? Or is that not necessary.
I have plenty of perch lures I think, and just got some more soft plastic stuff that others have suggested. I have both paddle tail and fluke style.
Any other suggestions - things I might not be thinking of?
As for kayak gear, I have rod leashes, air horn & whistle, pfd, etc. Is there a need for an anchor? I have one, just not sure if it will make sense to keep it in the crate.2015 Hobie Revolution 13

Bringing the ultra light is great if you want some action. I love using a light action rod when throwing lures for Stripers- love the fight on the light action. I use 1/8, 3/8 jig heads with paddle tails when fishing the shoreline. A favorite is a 1/8 jig with a chartreuse twister tail. Use the same rod for perch with spinners.
As for other gear- sunscreen & hat is important. I wear a microfiber long sleeve shirt, fishing gloves and long pants. Also be sure to have something to drink. Most of us will have radios ( ch68 ). If you don’t have one, hang with someone that does.
Hope to meet you there- I have a red Native Slayer 10.John Rentch
