  • SMOG meet and greet at St Inigoes July 20

The Southern Maryland Old Guys (SMOG) will be hosting an informal meet and greet at St Inigoes in southern St Mary’s on Saturday July 20. High tide is 5:15 and we will be launching at 5:30 to fish the falling tide. Lunch afterwards at Courtney’s around noon.

We are seeing speckled trout already and hopefully some reds will be showing up by then as well. Flounder should also be up on the flats, but bragging rights if you get one over 12”.

Hope some of you can make it. We are a long way from everything but that’s what makes it special.

I will not be able to attend but hopefully you have a strong turnout and catch many fish

    Best of luck.

I am also interested in attending. Could you also post bait/lure ideas for speckled trout and reds. TIA

The launch is St Inigoes, it’s located on Smith Creek at the end of Beachville Road in St Mary’s (past the Webster Field Navy Air Base). You can find it on the St Mary’s boat ramps site. Parking for about 15 cars with trailers, has a single ramp and small beach next to the ramp.

For specks we use similar baits for stripers, 4” paddle tails in chartreuse or pearl with chartreuse tail on 1/4 oz jig head fished near grass. 3” Gulp twisty tail grub in chartreuse also effective. For the reds we add a small spinner blade in gold and use the same lures as for specks. Essentially you’ve already got what you need.

The closest town is Lexington Park/California. It has all the usual chain hotels. I’d avoid the A&E unless your looking for “extra curricular “ activities. Same with Days Inn.

Obvious Gary and I will be there...and to answer the questions about redfish and speckled trout lures, Here is a picture of the home made Redfish Magic spinner swim bait..you can use the zero, 1, 2 and 3 size jig spinner...Eagle Claw, Arkie and Hilderbrand all make them...the smaller the spinner the lighter the jighead should be...I use the number 3 for the 3/8 oz jigheads and the 0 for the 1/16 oz jighead...the 1/16 oz with the 3 inch white Gulp is killer for White Perch and small Specks In skinny water..

Would love to come down and meet some of the crew that I have come to respect.
Not sure if I can make it.. definitely not for lunch if I get down there...

just in case anybody is worried about the distance... it's not really that far..
been a while since I have been down there but made the trip a number of times to the area..
I come from the top of the Beltway...

Hope all goes well if I don't make it.

Would love to be a part of this. Fishing only as I may need to work afterwards.

Excited to fish in a place that I haven’t been in years. Thank you for hosting!
