Man it totally breaks my heart! Every inch of me was ready... but unfortunately something very important came up and I won't be able to make it.
On a positive note, so the area is pretty close to my inlaws... I have to make time when I visit them next to hit you guys up to see if we can set something up!

There is an outside chance I may be able to join up with you guys this year. I have to get back down and meet with the manager at the Tidewater, this might be a good oppotunity.
I cannot make this one as I am being honored that day for my community based volunteer work. You guys catch a big one for me and have a great time.

If you are not satisfied with the color or texture of your custom made Doc Irv baits just let me know and I will redo it at no cost to you to your satisfaction, because I am not happy unless you are happy.*
*But if you are one of those people who is never satisfied then I retain the right to be unhappy.
Weather is looking a bit questionable at the end of the week. I still plan to be out there saturday morning, but if anybody wants to back out let me know. I'll be calling Tidewater Wednesday to make reservations for 2 pm lunch for everyone currently on the list on page 1 if I don't here from you.
Also, if anyone wants me to pick up minnows, I will be getting mine friday night from Clydes, place your orders here.
Don't forget to bring a new or lightly used lure for the biggest fish pot.
I'll be heading up unless it's raining. Snowing would be great though, just like last year. Freezing rain with wind would be a huge buzz kill. Last weekend was another blowout...making pretty much every weekend unfishable. Hopefully this weekend is better.
No minnows for me, thanks. I'm sticking with my trusty perch rig
See ya this weekend.
Hey Jim,
I fish the YP on the susky every year and the best thing that I've found are small 2" grubs. Powerbait makes the ones I use. I get the pearl and watermelon color. I don't know if that maters but it works so I don't change. Tie the hooks right to the main line about 18" apart. Do not use dropper lines. You want them right on the line and a fast action tip is the right thing. The bite will be so light that you need as much sensitivity as possible, so I use braid and the fast tip, medium weight rod. I put at least a 1 oz weight at the very bottom. The first hook will be about 6" from the weight.
Jig very lightly...maybe 6 inches up and down as the weight ticks off the bottom. At the slightest bump, set the hook. Most guys don't realize how soft the bite is and don't know they're actually getting fish. The weight must be on the bottom and you'll be in deeper water, perhaps fighting some current and wind so that's the hard part. The other hard part is finding the depth they are holding. Once you catch one, you've got it and just fish that depth. Sometimes they're in 25' and other times 50'. It's kind of amazing how they hang in one band of depth. Fishing with a group, someone will figure out the pattern, and that's good for everyone.
Tie some rigs ahead of time because you will get snagged because there is tons of stuff on the bottom where you'll be fishing. It's a pain to do it up there because the current will keep taking you downstream and by the time you tie another, it's an uphill battle to get back. Think of this trip like riding a treadmill constantly. I've only been up there a handful of times when the current and wind weren't working against me. When that happens, it's a killer time.
I know you're coming a long way. Hang with me and I'll show you where I've had success. If they're there,we'll get 'em. Hopefully we all come home with a limit but the fishing up there has been poor this year.
Thanks for the tip YakFish, I may need to get some lessions from you also. You said that you tie hooks directly to the line? What size hooks? No4 or No6, etc. You do not use small jigheads tide directly to the line?
