Let me know- I love cobia fishing- Hampton has some really good fishing just off Back River inlet- the fish run big here- 40 (+) lbs...you have to chum and live bait on the bottom is the ticket- Menhaden oil in a dripper helps out a lot-

This'll be my first time ever trying it. Camping at Kiptopeke state park. Not goin on a yak though. Gonna haul down my buddies 21' neptune. Heard while trying to cobia fish, theres a good chance of hooking up on skates, rays, and sharks. Most consider them trash fish, but i dont really care. I just wanna hear those Penns sing!

Guys, isn't this thread about the August Meet and Greet? Not Cobia or Kipto Let's stay focused.

          El Sloppy Tacos

          Just a heads up....

I'm thinking about trying to make arrangements for lunch at El Sloppy Tacos in Brunswick. Anybody ever eaten there? If there are no objections to that I'll contact the restaurant and see if they could handle a group of 6-12 people.

Is the proposed section of the Potomac suitable to a large kayak, like a PA-14? They are not really designed as a paddle kayak, while it can be done it's not highly maneuverable. And Sloppy Taco gives me a nasty mental image...

Shallow rocky river isn't the forte of Hobie Mirage Drive Kayaks- It is the forte of Jackson Coosa- a purpose designed river kayak

I'll come as long as the schedule for the patio gable project does not affect me coming. I will not know until that week.

I think a Hobie Pro Angler would not work well in this area. Any sit in kayak, canoe, or normal paddle powered sit on top kayak would work fine. Wilderness Tarpon, Native Manta Ray, Wilderness Commander, Feel Free Moken, Old Town, Pamlico, etc. would all work fine. Mirage drive systems, or pedal drive Native's will get damaged. There is current and rocks and you can tuck in behind rocks into the still areas to fish, or you can float and fish, or you can beach your kayak against a rock or shore and fish. There should be star grass and aquatic vegetation in the river too. Fishing should be good if the river levels are not high and flooded. I will pre-fish the area in the next couple of weeks.

If you don't want to work out a shuttle with someone to get back and forth from the Lander ramp, you can paddle up river towards Knoxville Falls and fish along the way and float back and fish along the way. There's plenty of areas to fish for a full morning. If you decide to skip the lunch gathering, you can float farther down to Point of Rocks. Plenty of possibilities to keep you busy and even plenty of places to wade and fish if you don't want to bring your Hobie.

I have an extra yak I would be happy to lend any Mirage guys that would like something a little more manageable on the river. No trouble to bring the second boat with me.

It's a start! I'm flexible for lunch but in any way we go. We could eat while fishing, hit a local spot in Brunswick or POR, or maybe a shoreline Bar-B -Que at the pull out in Lander. There's generally plenty of room there. Whatever works.
