I'll be there and can go either way with the lunch decision.

For those with Hobie kayaks, you can fish above Harpers Ferry and then go back to lunch. There are areas on the Maryland side along the C&O Canal. The water is flat and deeper. Many of the residents use pontoon boats in that area. I use my PA 14 up there all the time. Just follow Sandy Hook road around to the ramp. It is the second left off of Sandy Hook road after you pass the houses. There is a red camp sign by the left turn. It is listed on the Maryland DNR boat ramp page. There are lots of smallmouth bass in that area. After fishing you can go back to lunch.
I usually don't fish in any of those areas on Saturday, as it tends to be a lot of fisherman.
Before I go to those areas to fish, a good thing to do is check the water conditions: http://waterwatch.usgs.gov/?m=real&r=md&w=map. If it is much above normal, there is a good chance the water will be stained or dirty, depending on the amount of rain. It is also a matter of safety, if the water is well above normal.Last edited by DOGFISH; 07-20-2013, 01:11 PM.

Was really hoping to make this one since it's so close by, but just got word that I'll be traveling for work over that weekend. The launch ramp under the bridge in Brunswick is a nice one and out of the main current, so that's a great spot to start from. If you called the restaurant I'm sure you got the scoop already, but I rode through that area a couple weeks ago on the C&O canal, and as of 20 July El Sloppy Taco was BYOB. Wasn't a problem; we went down the street and picked up a few beers which the sloppy taco staff kept in the fridge for us. The food was good, but not outstanding. Average Mexican food joint I'd say. Hit the spot after a long day riding and I'm sure would do the same after fishing, but if the fish are still biting at lunch you might get more out of a riverside sandwich and more time on the water. Good luck guys!

OK, the August Meet and Greet is this Saturday. Plan to meet at the Brunswick, MD boat ramp on the Potomac River at 7:00AM. The boat ramp is located right below the Route 17 bridge over the Potomac, on the Maryland side. You will have to cross a small bridge that takes you over the C & O Canal. It's a nice parking facility with a decent restroom. Once there, you can pair up with a partner to figure out shuttle arrangements to get back and forth from either Lander or Point of Rocks.
Based on the poll at the top of this thread, it looks like people would rather bring your own lunch and keep fishing, instead of ending early to hit a restaurant.
I look forward to meeting whoever shows up.

I will try to join the group at Brunswick and learn more about river fishing. Realistically, 4 hours of fishing will be sufficient for me, and I will be ready to get off the water by noon.John Veil

I got the green light and am planning on attending. I live in Frederick an plan to arrive early & unload my yak & gear...I would be willing to follow folks down to the takeout, leave my truck there and ferry folks back to the put-in. I have an F150 pickup, with the bed extender. I look forward to meeting those I have yet to meet. - WayneJackson - BIG TUNA

Cool. Please vote about the lunch at the poll if you are coming. If the shuttle situation works out, I'll probably eat lunch with whoever wants to go to El Sloppy Tacos or someplace else in Brunswick.
I'll be keeping an eye on the river levels too this week and hope conditions will work for Saturday.

I have very little experience fishing free-flowing freshwater rivers. I would appreciate suggestions on tackle, likely species, and whether an anchor is needed.John Veil
