For those that did this event before, is it worth the money? We can fish the area for free any day that we want.

Fish for free any day? I guess that is hard to beat, this costs about fifty bucks, I'm staying in a camper in the campground $$,with a bunch of like minded nut cases that like kayaking, and I might win some raffle or something, and who knows perhaps get a couple fish, that all pales in comparision to what it does for the guys that gave so much in the military. I have a couple hour drive there and it costs more for the gas then anything else, and yes it's a party, but at the end of the weekend I feel good about it! So yes I think it's worth it!.....Jack

This will be my first time at this event. I know I have fished up in that location for free in the past. But I am always willing to pay a small amount $50-$75 depending on the event for the following reasons:

First it is more of a charity event to help someone else, whether it is for Heroes on the Water or the Make a Wish Foundation
Second I just love to fish with others, and learning from them, these are good events to see a lot of rigs and talk to a lot of kayaks all at one time.
3rd, typically you get a T-shit of the event that you support
4th , you have the potential to win some cool stuff
            5th, It includes camping
6th, It is a fun time and a party at these events and you get a dinner

So, I ask myself, how many people would go to dinner for a few hours and pay for a few drinks....there is a cost to that. (or I could sit at home and pour my own drinks)
Sometimes there is party to go to for an event like New Year’s, a party on a Boat, etc., that cost $50-$200, or (I can just party at someone's house for free and chip in some money for food and drinks)

So all I am saying is that yes you can do something for free or cheaper, but I try to look at it in its entirety. You are getting a lot for the money and you are helping someone else. How can you go wrong with that. Once you go to a few of these kind of events, then you will understand more. I know you are just enquiring. Like I said, this will be my first at this particular event. So I am looking forward to it. I am sure all of the above that I listed that you will get out of it is worth more than $50 on any given day. So I look forward to seeing you there.

BullDog is correct. See, this my first time there...LOL. I was talking in general for event like these, for example the Jamboree is for HOW and the CBKA is for Make a Wish and the CCA , and the CBKA fees include camping, for a slightly higher cost. All these events are reasonable in price as BullDog says. The experience is worth it alone for me and I have not been to the Jamboree yet, but that will change in April. Thanks for the Clarification BullDog..see you there.

Cant wait till April! Just FYI please do not confuse Perry Point Park with Perry Point VA Hospital for launching. The VA is Federal property and unless you work, have an appointment or are visiting a patient you technically are not supposed to be there. The boat launch at the VA is for the Perry Point VA Fire Deptment Rescue boat Marine 11 only. A gate has been placed at the entrance to the ramp (but it is not posted very well) because of civilians unauthorized use. It doesn't seem like a big deal untill you equate launching there to pulling up in front of the fire house and parking infront of the Engine bays. The entrance to Perry Point park is located off of Ikea way. Would hate to see someone get fined for launching at the VA.

As others have said...your not paying to fish, your money goes to support a great cause. Last year was my first...the weather the night before the "event" was absolutely terrible, torrential downpours, high winds, tents flooding, when morning arrived we all got out on the water & fished...few fish were caught...at the after party/dinner the awards were handed out for the lucky/skilled few who mananged to catch fish & the raffles were drawn. NO ONE LEFT THE JAMBOREE WITHOUT A SMILE ON THEIR FACE! This year I signed up for my camping spot within hours of the date announcement. So yeah you can arrive the day of, fish for free, not participate in the raffles or dinner BUT you will be missing out on the entire experience and meaning of the event.

Metroman told me that he will be there, but only on Saturday. Rockchaser said that he will be there also.

Coop and I are at Acorn 68.
