Full-on double rainbow across the sky. What does it mean??????
lol
Sounds like the weather moved in on you guys quick. Looks like you all still made the most of the situation. Several flounder (Great sign), Croakers, Rocks and a couple Chesapeake sleigh rides.
Great job. I wish i was able to attend this M&G. I'm making sure my schedule is open for next months M&G. I'm gonna film it and send it in to River Monsters on the Discovery channel.
It was fun out there!! I had a great time as always... here is a vid of what you guys missed on the water when that storm was rolling in... Please note there is no active fishing in this video... I don't have a mount! LOL But MetroMan and I were able to get 1 keeper before the storm rolled I also missed most of the other board members because we were rushing to get the gear and yaks put up! LOL Next time I will have a better documentary...
That video report was great. Every time i see Metro with the tow rig in action i smile. I'm packing some extra rope and sticking with the the torque crowd next M&G in case a storm rolls thru.
It was fun, and great to finally meet you guys. More pics attached.
Hey, mtymouse. I think you ought to give Metro Man's battery a break. Remember, about $200 and you can retro a motor to your OK yak.
Hit the water about 1230 pm. Headed toward the yellow buoy and then south toward the light platform. After several hours of seeing other yakers fish, I saw only moc out there. Catching fish was really slow. Jigged and used bws and squid. Caught only one croaker. Before I knew it, I looked around and nobody was around. Not even moc. Wind picked up, skies didn't look good and waves got choppy. I headed it with waves pounding the hull and spilling over the sides. Got soaked. Nothing marked, but I stopped and had to drop the line for a bit anyway. Nothing.
Skies continued to not look good, and still nobody was around. I headed in again. Stopped again and dropped the line, and still nothing. I got to about 600-800 yds from the entrance and decided to drift. Drifted for about 15 minutes. It was just before 5 pm. Whoa, what's this? Suddenly I marked lots of fish. Wind picked up more, and I could hear thunder in the distance. Dropped the line anyway. Within 10 seconds, Bang! Double hits on my tandem rig using squid. Kept the 15" croaker and released the 13 incher. I spotted two kayakers haulin' a_ _ toward the entrance. They were maybe 600 yards away. Thunder again. Still marked fish. Rebaited and dropped the line. My yak started to turn with the wave hitting the deck. Saw lighting. Didn't matter. The fishes were biting. Felt tugs. Took my bait. Rebaited. More thunder. Dropped the line.
The kayakers were about two hundred yards from me now. Hey, maybe I should go in. Felt another tug. Pulled up another croaker. Can't go in yet. Too much fun. Rebaited and dropped the line. Still saw marked fish. Another tug. Shoot, it was a miss. Then, a big loud crash overhead. Did I see lightning too? More waves tossed me about. Sh_t, I think I better get the hell outta here. Reeled it in real quick. Dang, I gotta go and the fish were biting. Put my rod and reel on deck. Didn't even put the hook/bait away. Turned the yak. Cranked the throttle into high with the nose looking south. About that time, the two yakers (one yaker was in tow) were parallel with me, about a hundred yards away. My motor was pullin' mad amps. I was paddling hard too. Waves pounded the bow. Water splashed all over the place. More thunder.
"Hey, can I join the wagon train?" I yelled. "Yeah, come on," as he smiled and laughed. More wind gusts. Three yakers were now bee-lining in, paddles a blazin'. More thunder. Constant waves and headwind. We finally rounded the gill-nets and went straight toward the entrance. We backed off on the heavy paddling. Ah, we reached the calm of the entrance. Turned out the yakers were Metro Man and mtymouse. No wonder they kept pace with me. MM had a motor too.
Exciting day. Caught five croakers, and took home three.

Usually we're focused on the bay. This is gonna be different. If you're a kayak fisherman this whole M&G idea rates up there with Einstein's theory of relativity! (well, only if you're a kayak fisherman in MD or NoVA!) Hope to see a lot of you guys! Every 2nd Saturday...
I agree, this M&G had the second best turnout since we started doing this. I like seeing all the different ways other yakers rigged up and transported their kayaks. There were lots of good ideas. One thing that I forgot to mention when I was out on the water, was that I saw a dolphin while "peddling" back to shore on my Hobie Revo. Jffoley pointed it out. When I finally fixed my eyes on it, I realized that it was swimming right beside my yak. Flipper eventual cruised right under my yak and eventually moved out further into deeper water. It was cool seeing the dophin up that close in the wild in the bay. I was hoping that he would not want to play with my yak and cause me to flip when the 7 foot Dophin swam under me. After the M&G fishing, it was really cool to hang out at a local Restaurant to get to know the other yakers, plan for future trips, and talk about fishing that day, such as bait and lures that work or did not work. You can learn alot by hanging out with everyone after to the M&G or whenever , the venue is decided.

That's one of the nice perks about a kayak. It's so quiet you can get closer to some of nature's critters. I'll have to prepare better next time for a restaurant meet up. I had some croaker which I had to get on ice and left the cooler back at my camp.
I got two 14" croakers and an oyster toad. Had a blast fishing with everyone and checking out how everyone rigged their yaks. Got the gears turning for some additions to my Tarpon. Here are my pics.
