Congrats on your new boat, we did the Upper Potomac float with Charlie last year (or maybe 2 years ago?) and his Vibe was perfect for the river waters.

Wanted something significantly lighter than my Slayer, so I picked up an Ulimate this weekend. (I could never get the slayer on the top cradle) :-)

It's a bit different layout than I'm used to. Pretty bare bones, so it'll be fun customizing it. We'll see shortly if it's a winner.

Congrats on your new boat also! I've taken wisdom from several members here, it's nice to have a 'go-bag' prepared the night before, to minimize the tackle you take with you for the day of fishing. I usually bring all my tackle, and having the limitation of the go-bag really makes me focus on the essentials.

A nice clean open-deck like your slayer comes in hand when landing larger fish / fish with teeth!

          gliebig,

Congratulations! I think the Ultimate 12 is a definite winner and I hope you enjoy yours. I like it precisely because it is bare bones. I've kept mine that way because I want it to remain light. It's easy to transport, simple to store and most of all, a joy to fish from.

Mine also has the upper birth on my kayak rack:

That's my 70 pound Revo on the bottom of the rack and my 59 pound Ultimate 14.5 on the opposite side.

Congratulations on your new Ultimate. Although it is an older design, it is a great boat that is easy to use and love.
