+2 on the comment. I was hoping to make this one, but I never confirmed since my parents have flown in from Florida for my sister's wedding, so I will not be at the Meet and Greet due to time constraints..... Enjoy and eat a softshell for me.

Ok, dangit, I've decided to man up and give it a shot. Up at 3am and then full steam ahead. I probably won't make lunch, though.

Question 1: The only jetty I see is at the far south tip of the island. Is that the preferred location to hopefully catch some spot? If so, I'll try and get there early enough to launch at Jack's.

Question 2: Where are the gas docks relative from there? Didn't see them on Google Earth.

Speaking of radios, what channel should I tune to for the event?

VHF Channel 68...and I am getting up at 3:30 as is Gary (Yak 67 ) the other SMOG host coming out of Brandywine...Mike is the St. Mary’s (California) Leader of the crew...who gets to sleep in until 4 or so...it takes me a solid hour to drive and takes Gary about an hour and 20 minutes...so we hear you about getting up early, but with the hottest day of the summer forecast being off the water by 11 will feel pretty good...and having a full falling tide of fishing to boot...

Here are the gas docks. The jetties are on shore and you can fish around the pilings.

I have never fished at Piney Point and look forward to trying a new spot tomorrow. I drove to Southern MD early this morning and fished for 3.5 hours in St Jerome's Creek in the morning (mid tide to low). I had a deep fried softshell crab sandwich at Courtneys for lunch then launched at Pt Lookout for another 3 hours (mid tide to high). St Jeromes was flat calm and loaded with small bait. I saw minnows splashing all over the place and had good bait marks on the sonar. I trolled for a while and never got a bite. I drifted the inlet and cast to the sides -- no bites. Finally near the end of the trip, I was bouncing a Gulp on a jighead across the bottom and caught 2 small flounder and a spot. I had two other considerably heavier fish on the line but they popped loose before I could see what it was.

At Point Lookout I trolled out to the sandbar extending out from the point of land at Point Lookout. I got no bites while trolling in open water, but I was able to find a spot where the rising water slid around the end of a partially submerged portion of the sandbar. This set up a strong current in just one narrow spot. I trolled through that small spot 6 times and caught 8 stripers to 20" and a 16" bluefish. I had several other bites and a bite-off at the same spot. 30 mins later, the incoming tide pushed the water higher so that the water flowed over top of the sandbar and not around the end of it. The bite went dead at that point. That brief period of action was my only catching of the afternoon. It was a textbook example of being in the right place at the right time.

I would be remiss in not mentioning how stinking hot it was. I always cover up fully on the water (long sleeves, long pants, sun gloves, Buff-type face shield, hat with neck flap. There were times this afternoon when I got so hot I took off the Buff for a few minutes. I was quite happy to get back to land and get into an air-conditioned vehicle. I also drank lots of water while fishing and some Gatorade back on land.

The full moon was out last night. That extra night time light may have affected the daytime fishing as the predators could feed at night if they wished. I also saw many sets of doubler crabs and some single crabs too. They were swimming near the surface in open water.

A can’t tell you how excited I am that you found flounder, we’ve been anxiously awaiting their arrival. Those bigger ones could have been nice flounder, or more likely blue cats that have unfortunately found there way to the creek. Looking forward to the morning.

Had a blast today meeting everyone and exploring new waters! Thanks Mike and the whole SMOG crew for being excellent hosts and engineering a great Meet and Greet. I wasn’t able to make it to lunch but I hope everyone had a blast. Count for me was 3 schoolies, a croaker, an oyster toadfish, two rays, and a crab pot haha I look forward to more time on the water with the SnaggedLine team.

SMOG meet and greet at St Inigoes July 20

The fishing was really good for me today...I took the south end of St. George’s Island hosting...but no one showed up and left all that prime territory to me...lost count after 15 or so fish...had four 12 inch perch...and shared 6 with the Landowner of the launch for his dinner tonight...have seven in the cooler on ice...culled white perch at 10 1/2 inches or better...caught two nice fat, frisky Stripers on perch lures that I did not measure but ran a lot of drag...the lunch was really tasty and reasonably priced...love my soft shell crab sandwich plate...yummy...fellowship was good

Big Mike and Ron- you guys really out did yourselves with the SMOG M&G. I think everything went well from launch to that great lunch at Chiefs. My day was like most- I landed 5 WP and one 14" Striper. Not great, but I wasn't skunked. Was really nice putting faces to names that I have been reading here, plus meeting some new kayakers. Maybe this can become an annual occurance- but lets leave the heat out next year! Here are a couple of pictures I took. Can't remember who the two are that launched with me at 5:30 this morning. The second speaks for itself.

As everyone has already said, thanks again Mike and Ron for all of the work putting this on. Had a great time, enjoyed meeting everyone, and had a great lunch too[emoji4]

I launched at the bridge, fished for spot with a double bottom rig, and caught 8 spot. Headed towards gas docks, stopped and live-lined a spot near the old pound nets. Lost a small striper at the kayak.

Fished the gas docks, live-lining again, didn’t get a hit.

Went back to pound nets and started trolling w/ a 1/2oz and 4” gulp mullet. Caught 2 dink strikers. Started jigging near the pound net structure, ended up catching a 14” Striper, a 15” Striper, and 2 17” Striper. No matter how much I tried, they wouldn’t stretch to 19”. [emoji3064]

Same as everyone has said, thanks for putting this together. It was a blast getting out and fishing with you all and the stuffed ham was pretty good too.

My wife caught two perch and I one, so we're both happy. Gotta keep trying different fishing methods on these larger bodies of water, so hopefully if we do this again next year I'll be putting up more numbers.
